With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Ella Frances Spruill, whose radiant spirit brought joy to her family and friends. A loving mother and grandmother, she passed away peacefully on March 18th at the age of 78.
Ella was born to Frank and Ella Lafon in Bluefield, West Virginia, on December 18th, 1946. Along with her sister Nita, the family settled in Chesapeake, VA, where Ella graduated from Great Bridge High School. While living in Chesapeake, she always treasured her extended family and lifelong friends from what she referred to as “the country.” That love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Ella was the loving wife of JC Spruill, who passed in 2018. They were married for 48 wonderful years and raised four children together. She was steadfast in her devotion to her children. She will be truly missed by Larry Spruill (Heather), Laurie Havens (Edward), Foster Spruill, and Julie McManus (Brian), her grandchildren, Gabrielle, Cameron, Danielle, Mason, and Logan, and many extended family members and life-long friends.
Ella loved meeting people and making friends. She also loved big family gatherings, lots of sunshine, and the beach. Ella was a woman of strength and resilience who taught us the true meaning of love and sacrifice. We will carry her lessons with us forever, and her spirit will live on in all the lives she touched.
We followed Ella’s wishes for cremation, and there will be a celebration of her life on Friday, April 18th, at 2 pm at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N Witchduck Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
