I am so sorry to hear of George's passing.  He was my big brother back in the late 70's while stationed at Governor's Island and later on the the USCGC Northwind.  We had many great times together at the America Cup Races, the 77-78 Great Lakes deployment and I was with him when he lost his Mother.  He was a great friend who will be sorely missed.  I know you and Denise are finally on the beach together , as it should be.  God blessed you my friend.

The Alion family and the Coast Guard test team at COTF are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague and friend "King George the First".  We're grateful to have worked with him, but more importantly, to have known him as a friend. We're inspired by his immense contributions to this country and to the community.  Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family, friends and all those who admired him.  Rest in peace George.  

Master Chief Smith - 
George - It was an honor to serve with you in our unit. 
You were the technical backbone of HDC 205 and 
the unchallenged leader of the MAST, the heartbeat of the unit. 
I still remember you busting butt to get and keep the gear going while the Mighty Masters of MIUW slept in the tents during Linked Seas. (I still have the pictures....). We kicked butt.
I never, ever worried about the communications or computers while you were around. 
I enjoyed your company at dinner in San Diego years afterward and will never forget what you told me about being in HDC 205. It was an honor. 
We WERE the best and you were the best.

A limb has fallen from the corvette family tree. I keep hearing a voice that says, Grieve,
not for me. Remember the best times, the laughter, the song. The good life I lived while
 I was strong. George was such a kind, gentle soul. He would do anything to help 
improve the car culture. I’ll remember George in many positive ways-with a big smile 
and a great sense of humor, always great with a story, about his 1965 corvette.
What an amazing friend since 2005. Caring thoughts are with you.

Our heartfelt condolences to all of George's family and friends. Such a warm and endearing friend, George was always quick to greet you with a big smile. We already miss him and will certainty miss even more during our Saturday, Cruise In's, where we just sat, talked, enjoyed the cars and everyone's company. I was so sorry to hear that George passed.  He was such a wonderful person.  I worked with George (Pentagon Staff) and we talked of Corvettes and Coffee.  Even after he left us in the CCD, he still came down and talked and was a member of our coffee mess and came to our Christmas Parties.  It was a privilege to work and know him.  You have my deepest sympathy.  

My wife Judy and I are new members of the Beachcombers Corvette Club and we were so lucky to begin to get know this fine gentleman and enjoy some of the many events he organized.  My daughter Madison and I had the privilege of following George’s lead at our first parade, the Pungo Strawberry Festival, and it is a memory we will cherish forever. 

George was one the good guys who made a difference on this place we call earth. He served his country in the USCG, and through his love of cars stepped up to lead or support so many Cruise in, car shows and was just always there. As a fellow member of the Beachcombers Corvette Club you will always be remembered with your 65 Corvette and as a friend. Rest In Peace and condolences to your family


Hey George!

Simply put...you are the best!

As an athlete, a smart guy, and our High Student Body President inv1966.   After Franklin St High School and San Joaquin Delta College in1968 in Stockton, CA, I move South to LA and you moved to Virginia Beach, VA.

I'll never forget you and see you on the screen of my imagination vividly.

Thanks for the memories and friendship back then...  You always  beat me to the punch and I'll just have to catch you on the other side Master Chief.

George was my classmate at Franklin Sr. High School in Stockton, California. He was  truly one of the nicest guys in our class, always polite,  always organized. It was great to see him at our 50th high school reunion. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. 

A shipmate thru and thru.  Will be greatly missed.   Rest easy Master Chief - we have the watch.  Thoughts are with the family.  Regret I will be unable to attend visitation or services.

George was a good friend who will be greatly missed by me and the rest of his Beachcombers Corvette Club family. His presence at the Beachcomber events will be missed and the Landstown Cruise-In won’t be the same without him. Rest in peace my friend and know you won’t be forgotten by me or your Beachcomber Corvette Club family. 

There are no words to express the amount of sadness throughout the Beachcomber Community. We are truly blessed to have known you as a fellow Corvette owner, but we are more blessed to call you our friend. We are all so thankful for the generosity of your time, the sharing of your wisdom and the kindness of your heart. The character of a man shines brightest when others speak of him. George, the character of you my friend is intensely bright right now. While we continue to mourn your departure from this world, we know in our hearts that heaven has gained a true gentleman. Rest in peace.

We will miss George.  Just today we're driving a route for an upcoming Beachcombers event and his name came up three times.
George greatly loved his family, was extremely proud of his service in the United States  Coast Guard, treasured his corvettes, and worked tirelessly supporting the Beachcombers. We'd meet for dinner and solve world hunger. 
George may the Lord Bless you  and rest in eternal peace.

The fun we have had in our Beachcomber Corvette Club activities!Too many to list here.  Too many to remember fully; what stays with us is the totally happiness of George E Smith. George was a key member of the Club for many many years and central member of the Smith contingent thereto. Remember how he coordinated our Blue Angel event and several shows at NAS-Oceana. All the ever changing parades and high school homecomings. Rest peacefully George!
