

James L. Holman was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, March 5, 2011 in Virginia Beach. He was born December 19, 1925 in Roanoke, Virginia the son of the late Richard and Verna Holman. James was a member of Virginia Beach Freewill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Ernestine (Teny) Holman; two brothers, Earl and Everett, a grandson, Scott and a great-grandson, Landon. Left to cherish his memory are three daughters, Nancy Holman of Virginia Beach, Joyce Ryan of Chesapeake and Mary Matthews of Kansas; a son James of California; two brothers, Barry and Bruce Holman; two sisters, Barbara Cupps and Mary Reynolds; 10 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter.
James was proud to have been a Marine and to have served during World War II. He was a custom trim carpenter for 49 years in the Hampton Roads area. James was a Baptist Deacon for over 50 years and also served his Savior and Church as a Sunday School Superintendent. He was on the board of the Virginia Annual Gospel Singing Convention where he enjoyed his love of Southern Gospel Music.
A special Thanks to his friends at IHOP on General Booth Blvd., especially Jamie Ramey, for the love and friendship shown to our Dad over the last few years.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 in Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home on Witchduck Road by the Rev. Marshall Boney and the Dr. J.D. Norris, Jr., burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, March 8, 2011 from 7:00 – 8:30 PM.
