James Linwood Taylor was called home on September 14, 2022, to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 65 years of age, following a long and extremely courageous battle with lung cancer, never complaining, or questioning why. With his Christian faith, he graciously loved the life God gave him and lived his life to the fullest. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Dalton and Helen Rountree Taylor.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Shawna Worsham Taylor; two sons, Brandon Lassiter and Walter Fender; sister Judith Saunders, her husband Phillip; and many other siblings, nieces, nephews, friends and his beloved furry family members who he adored. He was an avid animal lover his entire life and they brought him much happiness and joy.
James Linwood, known by many as Jim, was born on August 8, 1957, in Norfolk, Virginia. He worked as a structural welder at Newport News Shipbuilding where he attained the top classification as a first-class specialist until his retirement. Jim enjoyed his profession and took much pride in his work.
Throughout his life, Jim was a compassionate man who treated everyone he met with kindness and respect. He was a gentle soul who would always give a helping hand to anyone he encountered. Fishing with his sons was a treasured and favorite pastime. In his later years, he embraced a peaceful life in the quietness and beauty of his home in the country with his loving family and pets.
Jim will be missed greatly by everyone who was fortunate enough to have known him and he will always be remembered fondly for his loving heart and down to earth nature. He was a devoted and caring husband, father, son, brother and friend. May you rest in peace. You lived a wonderful life; you are no longer in pain, and you are now in the loving arms of Jesus Christ in Heaven above.
A private celebration of life and memorial service was held in his memory, attended by his immediate family and those closest to him, as per his wishes.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the animal humane society or animal shelter of your choice in his honor. This would make him very happy.
“May the winds of heaven blow softly, and whisper in your ear, how much we love and miss you, and wish that you were here.” Unknown
