Jimmy received his primary education from the New York City public school system. Jimmy joined the US Army at the age of 19, this is where his knowledge and love for computer technology began. He focused on System Designs, PC Maintenance, PC Network Development and Programing. He received numerous awards, throughout his army career, including the National Defense Service Metal. In 1972 he was employed by Military Sealift Command East, Department of Navy. It was there; where his skills was sharpened and he met long life friends. Together, they designed and developed PC networks and program software for varies government agencies and Msclant Fleet that are still being used today. During his tenure with MSC, he held many positions; E.A.M/Computer Operations Supervisor, System Programmer/Analyst, Computer Specialist. While working during the day, he continued his education at New York University in the evening to attained his AAS/BM degree.
Jimmy retired shortly after his command was relocated from Bayonne, NJ to Virginia Beach, VA.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jimmy was a man of many passions, he found joy listening to music, watching all kinds of sports especially golf. In the early 60s Jimmy met Clementine Daily and they had two daughters. In the mid-60s Jimmy was introduced by his cousin to the love of his life, Mildred. On June 24, 1976 they were joined in holy matrimony and they have three children.
Jimmy was a man of quiet strength, deep compassion and unwavering love.
Jimmy attended Greater Faith Temple Apostolic Ministry, it was then he made the decision to accept and dedicate his life to Jesus Christ. On February 4, 2011 he was baptized.
Deacon James Young lived his life with purpose, grace and humility. To know him was to know kindness, the kind that showed up without being ask or expecting anything in return.
Deacon James Young was a faithful member of Kingdom Cathedral under the leadership of Bishop Michael Rogers. He was ordained to the diaconate in July 2025. He served faithfully as a deacon and was heavily involved in the Brotherhood Ministry. He also served with our Chosen Generation Ministry which ministers to the senior population. He made his mark wherever his presence was needed. Ministry wasn’t just what he did but it was who he was.
On Saturday, November 8, 2025 Deacon James Douglas Young II left this earthly realm peacefully in his sleep. His spirit will live on in every shared story, every echo of laughter and every act of love inspired by him. We will forever carry him in our hearts.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his children Yvette Harrison, Yolanda (AIlah) Oneness, Michael (Keisha) Young, Tyra (Melvin) Middleton and James D. Young III. His grandchildren; Sequon, Lance, Javon, Jamar, Daquon, Terence, Jade, Jamera, Tamia, Monaé, James IV, Johann and Ashante.
His great-grandchildren; Xeniah, Seja, Segan, Cameron, Zuri, Aiden, Kristion, Kevin, Journie, Kaleb, Khloe, addition to a host of cherished family members and friends.
A Homegoing Service will be held at Kingdom Cathedral, located at 3820 Stoneshore Rd, Virginia Beach, VA, 23452, on November 18, 2025, starting at 10:00 am.
James Douglas Young II will be laid to rest at Pinelawn Memorial Park, 2030 Wellwood Ave, Farmingdale, NY.
