

Joanne Catherine Tierney, 75, returned to her Lord on May 1, 2018. Joanne was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 6, 1942 to the late Josephine and Stephen Kudla. She grew up there attending elementary school, St. Brendon Diocesan High School and graduation from St. Johns Hospital School of Nursing. She married Patrick Joseph Tierney immediately after graduation. As a Navy family, they ultimately settled in Norfolk, Virginia. She was proceeded by her husband in 1980, and latter both parents.
Joanne is survived by four children, Dorothy Ashby and husband Bacil, Kelly Bain, Patrick Tierney and wife Nicole and Timothy Tierney, three sisters, Lorraine Alwiess, Catherine Pellecchia and husband Ralph (Godson Jason), Veronica Jaap and husband Michael and their families, six grandchildren, Joseph and James Bain, Jeremy Ashby, Mia, Katherine and Patrick Tierney, and two great-grandchildren Liam and Leslie Bain.
The family was most important to her and much loved. She also loved her pets. Joanne practiced as a Registered Nurse for fifty-three years while volunteering at the children’s schools, with the American Red Cross, and the Girls Scouts. She was an avid reader, enjoyed taking care of her plants, stamping, sewing, knitting, crocheting and many other endeavors. Joanne touched the lives of many along her journey. She will be greatly missed, always remembered and loved.
Joanne was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Her family offers a sincere thank you to Dr. Eric Madren and RN Liz for their long term exceptional care and all the medical staff at Norfolk General Hospital who cared for her during her illness.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home (Witchduck Rd.). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Latter Day Saints at 2741 Greendale Ave., Norfolk VA with interment to follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
