Josephine Salas Parrish, 81, of Virginia Beach, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026, surrounded by family in the comfort of home. Born and raised on the beautiful island of Guam, Josie carried her island roots with her always. Though life’s journey took her far from its shores, her heart never truly left home.
Josie found joy in life’s simple, meaningful pleasures; tending to her garden, crocheting with care, and collecting treasures along the way. Her garden was a reflection of herself: patient, resilient, and quietly beautiful. A hard worker and devoted mother, she was strong-willed and deeply loving, a proud grandmother and great-grandmother whose family was always at the center of her world. Time spent together was her greatest gift and her greatest joy.
She was known for her stubborn streak, often paired with a knowing smile and her familiar saying, “You can’t win for losing.” Yet beneath that firmness was a heart full of care and compassion. She loved fiercely, stood firm in her convictions, and showed her care through steady presence and unwavering devotion. Her strength was reassuring, her care constant, and her love unmistakable.
She is survived by her four beloved children: Tina Marie Salas VanWart, John Robert Parrish Jr. (Jennifer Parrish), Jaime Lynn Harper, and Lisa Ann Parrish (Max Sarosdy). She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and two sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings, a grandchild, son-in-law, and her beloved dogs.
Josie leaves behind a legacy rooted in love, family, and island traditions that will live on through generations. Her heart, like her home, remains a place of warmth, growth, and belonging, forever held in the memories of those who loved her.
A woman of quiet faith, she now rejoices in God’s presence, surrounded by eternal love and peace.
