Leonard W. “Lenny” Boucher, 84, of Virginia Beach, passed away September 26, 2021 from COVID-19 and other complications. Born in Maine and raised in Nashua, N.H. by Albert and Emily (née Johnson) Boucher, who predeceased him. He was the loving husband of 40 years to his wife Elizabeth A. “Betty” (née Levesque) Boucher, for whom he cared for throughout her 30-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. She passed away Oct. 25, 1999.
Lenny was a US Navy veteran, retired Chief Electrician’s Mate, serving from 1954 – 1974, earning numerous accolades. Following the Navy, he continued as a master electrician and then electrical supervisor for Newport News Ship Building from 1974 – 1994. After two remarkable careers he then went on to volunteer for 25 years at St. Matthew’s Catholic School, Virginia Beach, until the week of his passing. His volunteer contributions to both the school and church were a source of great joy to Lenny. He loved his SMS family and taking care of their buildings almost as much as he loved sharing his sea stories! He was also a dedicated volunteer and supporter of wildlife rehabilitation, a passion he embraced with his daughter, Lisa, and he was a long-time volunteer with the Tidewater Division National Model Railroad Association.
He is survived by his children, Lisa Barlow of Virginia Beach, Chris (Carla) Boucher, Laura Stoy, all of Chesapeake; five grandchildren David (Jen) Barlow, Travis Stoy, Sabrina Stoy, Noah Boucher, and Seth Boucher.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 23, 2021 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Virginia Beach, where a reception will be hosted immediately afterward by St. Matthew’s Catholic School in the cafeteria. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 22, 2021, also at the church. Burial will be private at Rosewood Memorial Park at a later time.
