Louise Hayden Hall, 91, passed peacefully on February 13, 2025. She was born on February 22, 1933, in Saltville, Virginia, to the late Robert S. and Mamie Harris Hayden. She was one of eight sisters—Sadie, Nina, Daisy, Bessie, Bertha, Nancy, and Carolyn—who grew up on a farm where she learned the values of resilience, kindness, and generosity that would define her life. There was never a stranger at the Hayden table, and Louise carried that spirit of warmth and community with her for the rest of her life.
She married Ralph E. Hall, with whom she shared many years of devotion and partnership until his passing. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, stories, and an unwavering love for family. Louise worked for and retired from the Bell South Telephone Company as an operator, but her most cherished role was that of mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Harry and Mary Jo Hall, and her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Don Maggi. She was a proud grandmother to Daniel, Matthew, Rachael, and Catherine, and a loving great-grandmother to Silas and Giuliana. Each of them knew her as Mamaw and evermore carries a piece of her boundless love and gentle spirit.
Louise loved Jesus, the color red, yard sales, and people. She was a crafter and crocheted tirelessly, giving away hundreds of afghans and baskets. Her generosity wasn’t just in what she gave but in how she lived—fully, openly, and with a lighthearted, warm sense of humor and belonging. Her devoted family will remember her not just for her love, but for her spunk, her goodness, and the way she made life more colorful just by being in it.
Keeping with her wishes, no service is to be held, but the family will celebrate her life and legacy in private. To honor her memory, share kindness with someone in need—but do it with heart and maybe a splash of red, just like she would have.
Mamaw, your love was a gift beyond measure, and we will cherish and carry it always.
