

Predeceased by his father (Malcolm) and mother (Lela); sister Edna Hammonds; brother Allen Hatchell and previous wife Nina Hatchell.
Survived by his devoted wife and “Sugar Lump” of 18 years Eileen Hatchell; his daughter Valerie Hall (Tom); two sons Mack Hatchell Jr (Cathy) and Daryl Hatchell; three grandchildren Robin Creef (Randy), Michael Hatchell and Jason Hatchell (Leann) and numerous step-children and great grandchildren.
Mack retired after 20 years of faithful service in the Marine Corps as a Master Sargeant. He served in Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima in the Pacific and then the Korean Conflict. Besides being a Deputy Sherriff in Suffolk, he owned and operated Mack’s Barber Shop in Portsmouth for many years. His hobbies were camping, dancing, dabbling in construction projects around the home which included his famous and renowned front yard swing equipped with every necessity under the sun. Mack made everyone he met feel loved and important and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He had a generous spirit and always had a kind word to say about everyone.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm, Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, July16th, 2012 at Thalia Lynn Baptist Church. Private burial with full military honors will be held at a later date at Albert G.
