Robert Louis Claffy, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, peacefully passed away on December 8, 2025, at the age of 87 in Virginia Beach, VA. He was born on July 27, 1938, in Arlington, VA, to Joseph Claffy and Louise C. Ambrogi who predeceased him, along with his brothers, Joseph and Thomas Claffy.
Robert, known to many as Bob, was a man of unwavering dedication, both to his family and his career. He was married to his beloved wife, Beverly Ann Claffy, for an incredible 62 years. The couple met in a most serendipitous way while she was working as a nurse at a hospital while he serviced vending machines—an early hint of the future they would build together.
His life's work was rooted in the vending and food service industry, where he committed himself with passion and integrity. Bob began his career with the Macke Company in Washington, DC, where he serviced and catered to many prestigious locations, honing his skills and building a reputation for excellence. His journey took him to the Tidewater area in 1971, where he became a General Manager, further solidifying his legacy in the industry. In 1987, he took a bold step and opened his own vending and food service business, Anchor Services. Through his exceptional service and the trusted relationships he cultivated, he became a familiar name in the shipyard industry, healthcare sectors, and various industrial businesses. After selling Anchor Services in 1999, he launched Cardinal Services, continuing to serve his loyal customers until his retirement in 2008. Bob's greatest satisfaction came from the relationships he developed over the years, reflecting his outgoing and friendly nature.
Bob was a devoted member of St. Gregory the Great Church in Virginia Beach, where he served as an usher and brought communion to shut-ins, embodying his spirit of generosity and caring for others. His commitment to his community was evident in every aspect of his life.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Robert embraced life with a zest that was evident in his many hobbies and interests. He had a passion for antique cars, a love for bluegrass music, and an unwavering loyalty to the Washington Redskins football team. Bob also cherished the companionship of his beloved dogs, Angel and Terra, who filled his home with love and joy.
He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly, and their three children: Bobby (Brenda), Steve (Amy), and John (Robin). Bob was also a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren—Erinn (Mike), Stephen, Morgan (Ryan), Madison (Michael), Hannah (Kobe), Zane, and Winter—and a great-grandfather to three beautiful great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Luke, and Bennett.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bob’s name to support the memory wing of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, in appreciation for the care he received during his time there.
