

Virginia Beach - LCDR Robert P. Kendall, USN (Ret.), 90, passed away peacefully at his home on Wed. in Virginia Beach. Robert proudly served his country in the United States Navy. During WWII he served on submarines until the war ended. He was a survivor of the USS Cochino (SS-345) which sank in the Barents Sea in 1949. In 1958 he was selected to attend Officer's Candidate School in Newport, RI and then served on the Destoryers Charles S. Sperry, Corry, and Laffey. LCDR Kendall retired after 26 years. He was a member of the Submarine Veterans of WWII. After the Navy, he furthered his education obtaining a Master’s Degree from ODU. He continued a career as teacher, working at both Princess Anne High School and Tidewater Community College.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Jane Kendall; his loving and devoted wife, Ann O. Kendall; and granddaughter, Rebecca Crum-Mosher.
Survivors include a son, Robert Kendall of Winston Salem, NC; a daughter, Patricia Castello and husband Dennis of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Castello and wife Kim, Jennifer Castello, Rob Kendall, and Denise Castello-Ballard; eighteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Robert will be greatly missed by his friends and family. We will remember him forever in our hearts.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, Sept. 12, 2016 at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016 at Albert G.
