Bob was born to Rowland, Sr., and Ida Brewer Nolf on April 3, 1928, in Natrona Heights PA. He was a 1946 graduate of Har Brack High School. He went on to attend Western Reserve University, where he excelled at football, and was offered a position with the Cleveland Browns in the NFL. He instead chose to become a Dentist and a Naval Officer, serving over 30 years in the US Navy. The Nolf family moved all over, as Bob served from bases at Quantico, Norfolk, and Camp Lejeune, to Pearl Harbor and London. Bob retired as a Captain, and resided the rest of his life in VA Beach. Bob was an exceptional golfer, and is known famously as "Dr. Ace". He has scored 22 hole-in-ones, with the last two scored when he was 89. Bob played golf until a few weeks ago, when his health began to decline.
Bob is survived by his wife of 71 years, Martha "Jean" Nolf, his eldest son, Scott Nolf, and his grandson Jacob Nolf. He is also survived by his daughter in law, Toni Dellinger Nolf, his brother, Kenneth Nolf and wife Dorothy, and his brother in law, Daniel Fleischman, and wife Jean, plus several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Rowland Jr., and his youngest son Barry Nolf, who passed before his time in 2012.
Bob was an extremely intelligent, kind-hearted man, and will be fondly remembered by those of us left behind. Burial will be private, at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk. Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. For more on Bob’s life, visit his Memorial at www.kellumfuneralhome.com.
