

Virginia Beach – Winston Wallace Rose, 85, passed away peacefully at his residence on March 3, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Elma Wallace and Violet Boyd Rose on December 25, 1924 in Ocean View. He was predeceased by brothers, Roger E. Rose and Edison C. Rose.
At the age of 17, he volunteered to serve his country in the U.S. Army, 51st Engineering Combat Battalion. During WWII, he served in North Africa and Europe, participating in the staging and invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. Winston was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a 1950 graduate of the University of Florida.
Winston owned and operated the Sea Ranch Motel on the Chesapeake Bay for nearly 25 years. He was an early member of the Ocean Park Volunteer Fire Dept. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Winston is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Jeanette Ferrell Rose; daughters, Tracy Estep and husband Sam, Wendy Rose, Amy Vest and husband Walter, and Bonny Rose all of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, Winston and Spencer Estep and Taylor, Ellie, and Sydney Vest.
The family will receive friends from 6- 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home. A funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at the funeral home with burial to follow in Rosewood Memorial Park with the Rev. Mark Pullen and Chaplain Chris Fosback, officiating.
