I'm so sorry to hear of her passing.  Mrs. Gambee was such an influential part of my life.  She was my high school choir teacher in Martin in the late 1970s.  She encouraged me and while I did not pursue choral music, her influence helped me achieve other goals.  I reconnected with her in the early 2000;s when I was researching the role of ladies' library associations and libraries.  I should not have been surprised to learn she was a mover and shaker in Wayland.  What a wonderful and inspirational woman. I could always count on Helen to be there when we worked together as members of the Wayland Ladies Library Club.  Helen was a well-read and thinking woman and an adventurous spirit.  I always looked forward to her Christmas Letter with its recitation of her adventures during the past year. My heart is filled with wonderful memories of this lovely woman who was always an encourager. She had the gift of teaching people to expect more from themselves than they thought possible. I always looked forward to music class at the Steeby School and choir at church for no other reason than to see Helen's beautiful smiling face.  I have thought of her often over the years and will continue to do so as it is always a happy memory.  I wish the same for her family. Helen gave me a part in a Gilbert & Sullivan Operetta, much to my surprise.  I auditioned, mostly with the idea of remaining in the chorus.  Showing this confidence in me was a big boost to my will to do well.   As a prior poster said, Helen taught a lot more than reading and singing music.  She emphasized skills and character as well.    I only wish I had had a chance to visit with her during the past 5 years or so. Every time I think of Helen, I smile. She and I used to meet at Big Boy for dinner a couple times a month. Her recollection of times past was incredible and she was such an active, inquisitive and caring person.  While I know how sad it is to lose loved ones, please know that she was such a great influence on many lives and she is once again whole and healthy, not confined to the aged body that held her captive.
