As an infant, her mother had to carry her along with her older brother on-foot to the countryside in wintertime to escape the Warsaw bombings from the war, while her father fought on the front lines. They had to take shelter in an abandoned farmhouse until they were eventually taken in.
She graduated with an accounting degree from the University of Warsaw, and worked in banking until she escaped from communism to Austria by trains, carrying 1 year-old Margarita to meet her husband in Vienna who had previously escaped. After living and working 3 years in Austria, they made their way to New Britain, CT. where she started learning English and worked until eventually moving to Clear Lake, TX.
Alina worked for the main portion of her career at Bavarian Gardens in the Heights as waitress, where she became great friends with her co-workers and stayed close for many years. She set out to open her own BBQ restaurant on Westheimer in Houston, until Bavarian Gardens pleaded for her to come back where she worked until Bavarian Gardens closed. Throughout her restaurant career she also purchased rental properties which Margarita would manage for her.
Alina had a passion for traveling in Europe, taking her grandchildren Laura and Anthony on vacations to Poland each Summer. She also cherished her trips throughout Poland with her childhood friends, having fun going to various mountain spas every year with her circle of best friends. She was always very close to her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren, planning extended visits to spend as much time as possible with everyone.
She was preceded in death by Brother: Tadeusz, Nephew: Piotrek, and Grandson: Anthony
She is survived by her devoted daughter Margarita and husband Doug North, and her loving granddaughter Laura and husband Daniel.
