Alson James "Al" Waghorne, born on June 29, 1944, in Wichita Falls, Texas, passed away on February 12, 2026, at the age of 81. Al was a well-regarded, much respected man with a dry sense of humor and an infectious love for life.

His career included significant contributions to several companies, such as Biggi Manufacturing, Zelrich Steel, Klockner, Siderius, Gulf Steel, Ferro Union, Steel Summit, and Sumitomo. He also had his own company, Pinnacle Steel, for a few years. But quickly learned he preferred being a salesman to an entrepreneur.
He was married to his “current” wife, Patricia "Kay" Louviere Waghorne, for 47 years. Al's family was his greatest passion. He is survived by his wife Kay, his daughter Angela and favorite son-in-law Billy Schulz, and his grandchildren Jacob Young and Matea Schulz; his extended family, granddaughters, Courtney Powel, Carly Tanksley and Anna Tisdale and their husbands and children. Al is also survived by his sister Cherry Phillips.
He was predeceased by his son, Eric Joseph Waghorne; his father, Sydney James Waghorne; his mother, Jessie Vaughn Waghorne Young; and his brothers, Sydney Waghorne and Bernard Waghorne.
Al had a love for dirt bikes, golf, and boating but, he especially loved vacationing with his wife, daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren which they did several times a year. His commitment to his community was evident through his involvement as a member of the Living Word Church of Bay Area. He was a long-time member of Texas Mariners Cruising Association and The Brotherhood of the Coast. He was a member of Hearthstone Country for 32 years and when he retired and moved to the Bay area he joined Southshore Country Club. He and Kay lived on their boat and cruised along the ICW with friends for several years. Al will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his community, and his work. He embodies the expression, "A life well lived".
