I met Clark 15 years ago when he bought a trip to Las Vegas from me.
I learned early in our relationship what kind of man Clark was and knew he was one in a million.
  
Clark the son – 
Shortly after sending his parents (Brad Sr. & Mary) to Las Vegas for their 50th wedding anniversary it was discovered Brad had a malignant tumor on his brain which was inoperable.  Even though it broke Clark's heart seeing his Dad so sick and not able to even remember Clark – he was with his parents day and night taking care of his Dad who was also his best friend.  He put his life on hold to take care of the people who raised him to be the great man he was.

After he lost his Dad – he ensured his Mom was never without anything she needed.  I am not sure he was aware of how he would look forward to the phone chats with his Mom.  There was no subject that was off limits – but their favorite topic was politics – each knowing they were going to get into a discussion – a loud discussion - just to be laughing it off a few minutes later.

Clark the brother – 
Clark's sister Denise is one of the luckiest sisters – she had a brother who loved his “baby” sis and was always so protective of her.  He was so proud of her and would often tell me how smart she is.  He looked after her the same as he did his Mom ensuring his sister was taken care of.

Clark the father – 
Brad III was grown and marrying Erika two months after I meet Clark.  Being a travel agent he came to me to book their honeymoon package.  He was absolutely the worst client – constantly asking the same questions 4 and 5 times to ensure Brad & Erika had the perfect Honeymoon.  

Brad was his pride and joy.  Clark was the proudest father bragging about each of Brad's successes.  Over the past 15 years I have lost count of the many, many times Clark would share the same stories of Brad's accomplishments – there is no father more proud than Clark.

When Erika came into Brad's life Clark immediately loved her as his own daughter.  He often said, well more than often, actually way more than often ….that he couldn't have found a better wife for his son than Brad had done for himself.

Clark the Grandpa – 
Clark adored Brooke – the day after she was born he had to have a picture of her “Beggerly Toe” because that made her and Grandpa's toes just alike.  When she came to stay with us he sat in the middle of the living room playing Littlest Pet Shop over and over again and “letting” her win.  The most treasured moments are when they would sit side by side and play the organ together – she swinging her feet and him telling her how she played such beautiful music.

Clark the Husband –
I met my soul mate 15 years ago when Clark came into the agency to pick up his travel documents.  I looked up from my desk when the door opened and my heart skipped a beat when I saw him.  I thought he was the most handsome man I had ever seen.  Little did I know at that time I just met the man of my dreams.

There is no doubt we were put here on earth to be together.  We were so much alike in some areas and total opposites in others.  We truly complimented each other.  He had the biggest heart of anybody in this world. 

He was perfect for me and I thanked God daily for putting him in my life.  He taught me what true love is by his example.  We found each other later in life and 15 years with Clark were not nearly as much as I wanted, but I am so very thankful to have had the opportunity to spend those years with him.

On our second date he took me gambling – I had never been and was totally naïve about gambling. I took $40 and thought that would be more than enough money.  We sat down side by side at the slot machines and he was betting max which I thought was absolutely crazy but he was raking the money in.  After watching him a while I thought I would give it a try – it sure looked easy enough, putting in a little bit of money and taking out a lot – I liked that idea and I was ready to start winning like Clark.  I was so surprised when my $40 was gone and I hadn't won anything – not even a dime.  He continually gave me some of his winnings and I continually lost them.  I was not impressed with gambling and chose to never gamble again.

That only lasted until Clark took me gambling the next time and before long I got the hang of gambling and loved it.  There was something about those machines, they loved him and he would win every time.   I had asked him once if he ever regretted teaching me how to gamble – his reply was “Absolutely not, but it would be nice to see you win some of that money back that I keep giving you.” 

We had been talking about getting married for a while but neither one was in a big hurry to do so.  We were at the hospital when Brooke was born and I instantly felt like her Grandma.  On the way home I told Clark it was time for us to get married so I could be Brooke's real Grandma and not an illegitimate one.  He laughed and told me to set it up where and when I chose that he was ready too.

We were married 5 months later in Las Vegas on May 21, 2002.  The absolute happiest day of my life.

Las Vegas became one of our favorite places to go.  We would always take a road trip and visit a different place each time.  We loved the beautiful mountains – and talked about moving to Nevada someday close to the mountains but gave up that idea when we realized we would be too far away from family.  

He loved airplanes – any and all types of them from World War 1 to present day.  He enjoyed going to the air shows and, because of my time in Navy Aviation once or twice I was able to tell him something about a plane he didn't know but most often he was teaching me.

Clark is my hero – he fought melanoma for 3 years never complaining about the pain he was in or the many, many road blocks we encountered.  Disappointment after disappointment as each treatment did not work he continued to volunteer for each research program they offered in hopes there would someday be a cure for melanoma.  When they come up with the melanoma cure and vaccination please take a moment to thank Clark for his contribution.

I was asked once if I could use only one word to describe Clark what would it be – after giving it careful thought I told my friend “Clark.” I chose that because there is only one Clark – a man with confidence in himself, a huge heart for everyone, giving, kind, caring, sincere, generous, unselfish, sweet and a bit of a “smarty pants” - the list goes on.

Bradford Clark Beggerly Jr. was and will always be the love of my life.

Eulogy by Denise - Clark's sister

We're here today to celebrate the life of Clark Beggerly.  Bradford “Clark” Beggerly, Jr. was born January 30, 1954 to Bradford Clark Beggerly and Mary Olive Beggerly.  Clark was quite a blessing as it took his parents 6 years to finally receive what they so deeply wanted.  Clark grew up in Pasadena, Texas where he excelled in baseball throughout his childhood in which his father helped coach some of his teams.  Clark was always surrounded by friends as he was a very giving, considerate and respectful young man.  Many people felt comfortable talking with Clark and asking his advice on many subjects.  He was always very knowledgeable about most anything, and if he wasn't, he would be honest and tell you he just didn't know.  But you can bet he would research anything to become more knowledgeable of the subject.  
 While in High School, Clark was an avid surfer and he and his friends had a garage band with their best song “Proud Mary” which we heard over and over.  They couldn't afford drums, so upside down trash cans worked just fine.  Clark could pick up a guitar, piano or organ and learned to plan on his own.  He had a very fine ear for music.
 During high school he met a young lady, Vicki.  After high school they married, and had the most beautiful baby boy Bradford Clark Beggerly III.  Brad was the apple of their eye and was showered with love from his Dad and Mom and everyone that knew him.  He has grown into an absolutely fantastic young man, husband and father who he learned from the love from his mother and father.
 Clark began working at DuPont as a young man and made this company his career.  He retired last year in 2013.  He was always proud of his company and the way they treated him.
In 1998, Clark's parents were going to have their 50th anniversary.  Clark, being the loving and caring son he was, decided to arrange a trip to Las Vegas for them.  He went to a travel agency, walked in the door and sitting at the desk was the most beautiful woman that flipped his heart and stomach at the same time.  He immediately knew this would be the love of his life and the woman he would marry.  Unbeknownst to him, this woman Pamela Diane Rush was feeling the exact same feelings!  Talk about soul mates!  When Pam set up the Vegas trip, she added a few extra perks which Clark was not expecting.  After that he thought, I am going to ask her out!  After that they dated, got married and spent wonderful years together where neither ever doubted their love for each other.
 During the wonderful marriage between Clark and Pam, two of the most wonderful surprises happened.  Two beautiful little girls were born; a granddaughter Brooke Beggerly and a niece Kait Crump.  These two little girls could not have been more loved than they were by Clark and Pam.  
 There are so many more good things I could say about Clark. He was an animal lover.  He loved his cats and dogs so much.  They were his fur babies for sure.  He was giving and always happy for what he had.  Such a responsible person and cared very deeply for his family, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.  Heaven received one of its greatest blessings June 13, 2014.

Eulogy from Len DeMent - Clark's Cousin but they were more like Brothers

Clark was the brother I never had.
When we were younger, our families were together almost every Friday or Saturday….playing games and just visiting. The adults would play horseshoes while the kids would play tetherball or yard darts. Boy does that bring back memories.
We would spend Thanksgiving together…always eating too much then watching football on T.V. all day long.
We would go on vacations together to San Marcos and Weatherford. I specifically remember Aquarena Spring with the glass bottom boats, and the gondolas. Uncle Brad and my mom were in one together and he was making it swing so much she got furious with him while Clark and I watched from another one. Uncle Brad was just laughing at her and Clark and I kept quiet, but really wanted to laugh too.
One of my great memories is Termite the 95 lb pit bull house dog who was Clark's buddy.  You could hit Clark and she would bite you on your ankle and hold on to you.  You could hit Bradford and the same thing.  But if you hit Vicki, Termite would bite Vicki. Clark would laugh and laugh and of course I would do it again and again.
After his Mom and Dad moved to Bacliff, that became our new hang out.  Fishing, going to the drag races, boat races, and all kinds of things. We were young men living, like young men.
I remember the time Clark, Bradford and I were on Galveston Island. We were in my Camaro with the T-tops off. Bradford decided to climb up on the roof as we drove down the beach. Well as fate would have it, the cops saw us and yelled at us over the PA ”get that kid back in the car.”  We were always getting in trouble.
Clark was so proud of Bradford. He was in Little League, Football plus all his other adventures. It was a wonderful father son relationship to see grow each year as Bradford grew.
Before long, Erika came along and became a wonderful addition to the family. Next came Brooke! She was Grandpa's Girl! He adored her and she was one of the greatest joys of his life.  She definitely could do no wrong! Erika and Clark were very close.  They had countless conversations on her long drives home from work. I'm sure they talked about everyone, especially Pam but most of the conversation was spent with them stating how they were the only “normal” ones.
I remember when Pam came into his life.  They were a perfect couple. They fit like a glove. She was what was missing in his life!  They loved to go to Las Vegas and California. He taught Pam to gamble…I'm sure he regretted that! There was a time when they went 3 or 4 times a year to Vegas. But it wasn't just Vegas that drew them west.  They never missed visiting the mountains on their trips. They especially enjoyed the Valley of Fire Mountains. They were inseparable. They did practically everything together.      
As Clark and I got older, we starting greeting each other like old men. “Hello Mr. Beggerly,” and “Hello Mr. DeMent.” But if you knew Clark, he always had a little bit of his Dad's wit and humor.
We always spent Christmas Eve's together. It was at Bacliff and in later years, moved to Brad and Erika's home.  We would share delicious food and watch the kids open their presents. Everyone would have a wonderful time and visit all day long.
He was my closest, best, and dearest friend. I will miss him with all my heart. I love you brother.

After meeting Clark at work it did not take long before a lasting friendship began.  We shared many discussions of various topics at great length.  He always spoke so fondly of his wife Pam and family.  When expecting my first grandchild I'll never forget his comment.  "It will be greater than you can imagine".  He was so right!  Clark, I know you are finding Heaven is greater than you can imagine.  Miss you.

Lost a great friend. Clark was one of the few that took a outsider from West Virginia and made me feel welcomed back in 1991. He always had my back on plant and off. He will be missed.

Brad, Erika, Brooke, Denise, and Mary-I am sorry for your loss of a father, grandfather, son and brother. Clark was a one of a kind man. He always had a smile and a joke that made you smile with him. His zest for life and living life to its fullest was not lost. He inspired others to be the best they could. Len and Leslie-I know Clark was like a brother and Uncle to you. I am sorry for your loss and pray that you will both find peace as you mourn the passing but celebrate the life that Clark lived and blessed others with while here on earth. Clark-You have passed to Heaven and returned to the beginning. May your soul be at peace, your body freed and the blessings begin.

Dad/Grandpa/Father-in-Law (FIL),

How do we even begin to express how much we will miss you?  Whether we were hanging out, celebrating a holiday, or on vacation, it was always about FAMILY.   We will keep being a family, because that is what the Beggerly family does best.  Love and the comfort we can give one another, is what will get us through this difficult time.  You are at peace, and although we do not want to accept your loss, we know you are in God's hands.  We know you will continue to watch over us as our guardian angel.  

We will always think of you as we grow older, and we watch Brooke grow up into a beautiful young lady.  I will always keep you posted about Brad's antics when he is officially a "teenager's daddy".  She will miss her Grandpa!  You know, the Grandpa that stole her pink pillow....Who could ever forget that story!!!  Who knew that last Thursday would be the last time for us to "do the drop".  I am so thankful that we made time to meet that day.  

I will miss you, FIL.  Thank you for welcoming me into this family as your DIL, and for being so "normal".  My drives home from work will never quite be the same.  Please watch over me as I try to comfort Brad, Brooke and Pam in the rough road ahead.  

Your son will miss everything about you.  Words cannot describe the love he has for you.  His love of music, sports, and the outdoors are things you taught him.  You have raised an awesome son/husband/father, and I know you were always so proud of him.  He will continue to make you proud, and will need the spiritual guidance that only you can give him when he calls on you.  

We love and miss you dearly!

Clark and Pam - husband & wife, companions, lovers, and friends.  Clark's love for Pam included her relatives - we received the "package deal".  I was blessed with a son-in-law who I trusted to always do "right" by Pam.  We never feared his harming her, or allowing anyone else to do so.  I will forever miss Clark.

Clark made a study of military history; I could have learned a lot from  his knowledge of the military; even with my 26 years of service.  His patriotism and love of our America is appreciated.  This is just one of the kind thoughts I love about Clark.

Hi Ms. Pam ~ I'm thinking of you and your entire family as you all try to find peace with your loss. You are a beautiful person so I know he was as well.

We welcomed Clark into our family 15 years ago. We could not have picked a better husband for our dear Pam. They have shared many joys, adventures & challenges. One of their greatest blessings was the marriage of Clark's son Brad to Erika and becoming grandparents to Brooke. Clark was a great uncle to our darling Kait.  Pam and Clark have had many special and fun times with these two girls. 

Clark will be tremendously missed!!! Our hearts are heavy and sad for this great loss in our family and his. He could not have been more loved. Most especially by his wife and my dear dear sister. No one gives bigger love than Pam, affectionately known as "Lady Bug", who now has a huge hole in her life and heart. We are so so very sad for her.  She will continue to need your love, prayers and support for a very long time. I know Clark is depending on us all to support her. And we will! 

Just the day before he joined our Lord my niece, Kait and I visited Pam and Clark. He was feeling great. We had such a wonderful visit. He was his ole self. Cutting up with us and being his smarty and loving self.  Upon leaving we hugged, I told him I loved him and kissed him on the cheek.  As I turned to leave, I turned back around and hugged him again and we repeated our affections. What a great blessing for this spontaneous reaction. 

We are so grateful for all the years of happiness that Pam and Clark shared. And all the beautiful and fun memories she now has to give her comfort.

Clark will forever be in our hearts!!

Brad you had the best Dad.  Pam you guys were perfect for each other.  It breaks my heart to see this guy go.  He was such a giver.  We talked a lot over the last few years because he was always worried about how to best care for someone else.  We rarely if ever talked about what he needed.  Such an unselfish man.  Nobody will ever fill his very big shoes.
