For those of us who were blessed by knowing Cheri Jaris...I believe she was an angel sent from above to bless us with her presence.
My first encounter with Cheri was over “Woody” (a greyhound).  She was the Director of Adoptions and I was the Executive Chef at GGP.  After several conversations that day she “allowed” me to take him home.  Little did I know that I was in the presence of my soon to be best friend.
Over the years we enjoyed doing several things together...shopping, greyhound “activities” watching the same shows, going to the lake house, and of course going to the casinos for massages.  I will never forget our “outings” where we would solve all the worlds problems over hot fudge sundaes...double the fudge.
When I moved to Trinity I felt so lost because I knew I would never find another friend like Cheri.  Once again Cheri brought me so much happiness by inviting me to stay with her and Ed when I came to Houston for my weekly visits.  It became a joke ...when would I be bringing some peanut butter fudge or Coca Cola cake.  Our breakfast was always Shipley Donuts or better yet...meeting Mel for breakfast tacos.  Cheri had welcomed me to be part of her family...she had become the sister I never had.
Cheri’s love and compassion for all (humans and animals) will never be equaled.  Her lifetime happiness came from seeing others joyful.  She was a true prayer warrior who was never afraid of asking others to lift situations up.  Cheri routinely blessed me with her Bible readings and meditations.
I am very thankful Ed and Mel blessed me with the opportunity to say goodbye to Cheri on September 3rd.  Right before I left her room I was blessed (for a second) with seeing “the old Cheri” in her face.  It was at that point I knew God was calling His “true and faithful servant” home.  For dog people there is a place called Rainbow Bridge and I imagined the spectacular reception waiting for Cheri.

I met Cheri a little over 20 years ago when Cheri's son Chris asked my daughter Sherri to marry him. We shared 2 grandsons Andrew 19 and Daniel 17, both of whom we loved greatly. We shared approximately 20 Thanksgivings and Christmas' together, Cheri's sweet smile and laughter will be missed.  I know that I will see her again in Heaven where Cheri is now free of pain and is be comforted by her Lord and and Savior. I can only imagine.  My love to Ed, Chris & Sherri, Melisa & Carol I know you and the other members of the family will miss her.

I met Cheri through her good friend Rita. I know Cheri was a special friend to Rita and I was blessed to have gotten to know her.  On occasion, when I traveled from Indiana to the Houston area, she and Ed welcomed Rita and I into their home.  She even invited us to join her and Ed for a stay with them in Lake Charles, LA. Having also visited with her in her past employment at the Dog Track managing the Greyhound adoption, I was keenly aware of her love for dogs. I know her friendship will be missed by me, but even more by Rita.
May the Peace of God that surpasses all understanding, be with Cheri's family in their time of sorrow.
