

Cornelia “Caty" Beekenkamp Flowers, 89, of Friendswood/League City, Texas, passed away on March 17, 2023. She was born in Bascoop, Holland to Johanna Van der Stam Beekenkamp and Cornelis Beekenkamp on March 9, 1934. Caty, along with her parents and brother Tony, moved to the Houston area in the early 60's.
Caty was very proud of her native Holland. She loved the tulips and windmills. Caty was fluent in at least five languages. She and her brother were children during WWII and she remembers how life was during the German occupation. Her family moved to Spain and later to the US. She met the love of her life in Sunday school at First United Methodist Church of Houston. After marrying Jim, they lived in Houston and later moved to Friendswood, Texas. Caty and Jim became active at League City United Methodist Church, where Caty sang in the choir for over 20 years. They both served on the evangelism team for many years. Caty and Jim went on several mission trips to Costa Rica and Nicaragua. They also enjoyed square dancing and were active in the Holland Club. Caty was so very proud when she became an official citizen of the United States.
Caty was preceded in death by her husband Jim and her brother Tony. She is survived by her son, Richard Flowers and daughter, Kay Flowers Thomson, both of Taylor, Texas, and sister-in-law Marie Shepherd of Pearland, Texas. She is also survived by grandsons Corey Flowers (Morgan), Rickey Calhoun (Tiffany), Christopher Calhoun (Samantha), and Donald “Gage" Pasket, granddaughters Cortney Flowers and Wendy Ferguson (Jarrett) and 11 and ½ great grandchildren.
Caty was a delightful woman and will be missed dearly by family and friends. There will be a private family viewing on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Forest Park East Funeral Home. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared below for the family.
