Craig Eugene Herring, beloved life partner, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, was born on April 21, 1957, and was called home to be with the Lord on January 7, 2026. His life was one lived with joy, devotion, and an unwavering love for his family.
He is survived by Noriko Herring; daughter Heidi Scallon and her husband Tom, and their children Jack and Rhett; son Kyle Herring and his wife Andrea, and their children Brady and Calvin. He is also survived by his brother Greg Herring and wife Misako, and his sister Lisa Williams and husband Kenny. Craig was a cherished uncle to Nicole Turpen and her husband Jason, and their children, Austin and Stella. He was also blessed with many cousins, aunts, and uncles, all of whom held a special place in his heart. Craig was preceded in death by his father, Allan Eugene Herring, and mother, Patsy Ruth Herring.
Craig was born in Houston, Texas and raised in Pasadena, Texas, graduating from Sam Rayburn High School in 1974 before proudly serving his country in the United States Navy, working for the Local #22, and then as a claims adjuster. It was during his Navy service that he met the love of his life, Noriko. They married in 1979 and built their life together in Clear Lake, Texas, where they raised their beautiful family. In his younger years, Craig was also a talented craftsman who enjoyed woodworking and also spent evenings umpiring youth baseball for the local little league.
A devoted father and Gee Gee, Craig found his greatest joy in his family. Craig was endlessly proud of his children and grandchildren. He loved spending time with them, whether at family gatherings, sporting events, or simple everyday moments, and he would talk about them to anyone who would listen. His face lit up when he spoke of their accomplishments, their personalities, and the happiness they brought into his life. To Craig, being a father and grandfather wasn’t just a role; it was one of his greatest blessings. His cheerful spirit, easy smile, and big heart were constants in the lives of those he loved.
From the moment they entered the world together, Craig and his identical twin brother, Greg, shared a bond that was unmistakable and unshakeable. They were rarely apart, always side by side, whether getting into childhood mischief or navigating life’s many seasons. To everyone who knew them, it was clear they were not just brothers, they were each other’s closest, dearest friend. They affectionately called each other “Bub,” a name that became a defining symbol of their closeness. Yet even with their unique twin connection, they always made room for their younger sister, Lisa. The twins included her in their adventures, treated her with the same fierce love, and made sure she always felt part of their world. Lisa adored her older brothers in return and supported them wholeheartedly, standing by them in whatever they needed. Though Craig has returned to God, the spirit of their bond endures. The “Bub Club” will live on in Greg and Lisa’s hearts forever.
Well known for his deep passion for sports, Craig remained forever loyal to the Houston Texans, the Stros, and the Texas Longhorns (Hook ’Em!)—through the good years, the great years, and even the really rough “rebuilding” years. He cheered for the Texans no matter how many times they broke his heart, celebrated the Longhorns with unmatched enthusiasm, and rode every high and low with the Astros like only a true fan could. Craig also loved fishing and being out on the water. Some of his happiest days were spent taking the boat out—cruising, casting a line, and enjoying the peace and freedom that only a day on the water can bring. Whether he caught anything or not, Craig simply loved the experience, and sharing those moments with family made them all the more special.
Craig made friends everywhere he went. His jovial, warm spirited nature drew people in, and he had a gift for making others feel welcome and at ease. Whether he knew you for years or had just met you, Craig had a way of making you feel like an old friend.
Craig loved wholeheartedly and lived generously. His steady presence, humor, and warm heart will be profoundly missed but forever carried in the memories of those blessed to have known him. While he was taken from us too soon, we take comfort in knowing that he is now with our Lord, held in eternal peace and surrounded by God’s love. May his legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty continue to shine through the many lives he touched.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 11:00am at Crossroads United Methodist Church, 10030 Scarsdale Blvd, Houston, TX 77089.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Houston Texans Foundation.
