

David Eugene “Gene” Perez, age 67, of Webster, Texas, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 28, 2017, surrounded by loving family and friends. He was born in Alvin, Texas on January 9, 1950 to Michael Najar Perez and Mercedes Luna Perez. He grew up in Alvin and graduated from Alvin High School. He played on the celebrated 1968-1969 Texas State Semi-Finalist Alvin Yellowjacket Football Team where he was an all-district guard. He then served in the United States Army in Korea as a Field Communications Electronics Equipment Mechanic and an Amphibian Operator. Upon return from active duty, he joined the Alvin US Post Office where he worked as a letter carrier for 30 years.
He fell in love with Ninfa “Nina” Gonzales and they were married in 1976, beginning a long and happy marriage of 40 years.
Through the years he served as a youth minister and counselor, and later served for 15 years as Senior Pastor of Anointed Worship Center in League City. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Fredrick L. Perez, and his grandson Musa Malenga Amatende. He is survived by his wife “Nina” and children Vanessa M. Resendiz and husband Jorge, Elizabeth Amatende and husband Malenga, and grandchildren Mampi and Muttau Amatende, and brother Michael Perez Jr and wife MaryAlice. He loved his family and he loved studying the word of God. It was his greatest joy. We greatly love and will forever miss him.
All services will be held at Forest Park East Cemetery, 21620 Gulf Fwy, Webster, TX 77598. Wake service will be Sunday, March 5th, at 6:00pm with Funeral Service on Monday, March 6th at 10:00am.
