

On Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, Dorothy Ann Bragg Sherrington passed peacefully into the promise made to her long ago. She was 88. Born April 9, 1924 in Henrietta, Texas, to John and Eva Dugger Bragg, pioneer stock, she was one of 12 remarkable children. Dorothy met the love of her life, John Richard Sherrington, of Chenoa, Ill., at Wichita Falls’ Sheppard Air Force base during World War II. Their first child, Karen Ann, was born in 1946 in Wichita Falls. Over the next few years, tracking his career with the Santa Fe Railroad, they lived in Galveston, Beaumont and Dallas, where the rest of their five children were born: Richard Keith (1950), John Kenneth (1951), Kevin Miles (1956) and Kyle Braxton (1957). They moved to Houston in 1959 and became members of Meadowbrook Baptist Church, where they served faithfully, providing a Christian example for their children and countless others. A handsome couple, well-matched, he was quiet and thoughtful with a brilliant, ready smile. She was beautiful and fiery. They were inseparable until his death on June 7, 1979. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her son, Keith; her parents; brothers James, Arthur and John Bragg; and sisters Elwyn Lefevre, Ruth Morgan, Mary Mitchell and Eva Foerster. She leaves behind siblings Margaret Haney of Austin, Florence Huffhines of Lubbock, Linda Bonham of Arlington and Howard Bragg of Delaware. She is also survived by Karen Meyer of Houston; John and Shawna Sherrington of Cypress, Texas; Kevin and Debbie Sherrington of Dallas; and Kyle and Robin Sherrington of Tulsa, Okla., as well as nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and scores of wonderful friends. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Forest Park East, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, TX, 77598. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice or in Dorothy’s name c/o Easthaven Baptist Church, 13100 Beamer Rd., Houston, TX, 77089.
