DOROTHY JEAN MOODY NOVOTNY of Angleton Texas passed away February 14, 2021 surrounded by her family. Dorothy was born January 6, 1924 in Houston, Texas to Johnnie Estelle Moody and Verner Erling Moody.
Dorothy accepted Christ as her personal Savior while attending Minnetex Community Church when she was 16 years old. She was very close to her older sister Louise Gehring who also attended Minnetex at the same time.
Dorothy went on to graduate from Stephen F. Austin High School in May 1941. She later completed 2 years at Wheaton College in Chicago, Il. While there, she took up ice skating in her free time and enjoyed visiting the museums other sites while living there. After completing 2 years, she returned to Houston and worked for Humble Oil and Refining Company in downtown Houston as an executive secretary.
Later Dorothy met Edward and they married in June 1950. Ed told Dot if she would work for one year, he would take off from work and build their first home which he did all by himself.
Dorothy and Ed were devoted to their two children, Janet Lynn and Wayne Edward. During their 55 years of marriage, they attended and were members of Almeda Bible Church and Conroe Bible Church. After Ed’s death Dorothy moved to Angleton Texas and joined First Baptist West Columbia and finally First Baptist Lake Jackson, Texas.
She had a heart of service and was always teaching vacation bible school or whatever was needed to keep things running smoothly at the church. She sent out newsletters for years for her friend Myra DeFriend who was a missionary in Japan.
Dorothy was an accomplished seamstress and loved to help her neighbors and friends from church when they needed a clothing alteration. She felt it was another way she could serve her Christian friends.
We are comforted knowing that our loving Mom is now in the arms of her Lord and Savior and finally reunited again with her Valentine, Ed.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Forest Park East Cemetery, Webster, Texas with Pastor Mike Carlen officiating. Graveside services will follow at the same location. Visitation at 1:00 with Funeral Services at 2:00 PM.
