Willie was born to Pa Onavwoyan Izoma and Ekenome Ubiri on February 3, 1951, in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. His father always preached to him that education was the surest way to opportunity. Thus, from a young age, Willie always wanted to be a doctor, believing it was his life’s calling.
With this conviction, Willie completed his high school education in 1968 and won a competitive scholarship that allowed him to move to Romania, where he earned his medical degree.
Returning to Nigeria, Willie would meet and marry Goretti Rerri. Together with their young three children, they would move to the United States in 1988.
As an American physician, Willie earned numerous honors and distinctions, serving as a certified gynecologist and reproductive endocrinologist/infertility specialist at several major hospitals spanning Massachusetts, Texas, and Pennsylvania.
He spoke glowingly of helping families to conceive, reminiscing how they would return years later with their children, now grown, giving him high fives. He was called a dream weaver, beloved for his hearty laugh, keen sense of humor, and whimsical assortment of sweaters and socks.
Willie was an avid watcher of tennis and enjoyed travel, always on the move. However, his greatest love was for his family. Protective of his daughters and a role model to his son, he bestowed on them the same ethics and character that his parents instilled in him.
He was preceded to heaven by his father, Pa Onavwoyan, his mother, Ekenome and his sisters, Ovayero and Amorighoye. He is survived by Goretti Rerri, their three children, Tega Zoma, Kevwe Zoma, and Rume Zoma, and his dearest and best friend, Andrew Elimian. He also leaves behind five sisters and two brothers.
A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, August 31st, 2024, at 11:30am, at the Forest Park East Funeral Home, Webster, Texas. A reception will follow the interment at the Forest Park East Funeral Home. The Forest Park East Funeral Home’s address is 21620 Gulf Fwy, Webster, TX 77598, Tel. (281) 332-3111.
