Edwin Henry Dowden passed away peacefully on April 27, 2024 in Tomball, Texas at the age of 89. Mr. Dowden was born October 28, 1934 in Shreveport, Louisiana to William M. (Billy Boy) and Willie Valentine Dowden.
Edwin was Allstate basketball guard at Anacoco High School until his graduation in 1953. Ed loved all sports, especially, the L.S.U. Tigers football team. He started listening to the Tigers on the radio when he was only 3 years old. In 1953, he married Betty June Gallien of Natchitoches and in 1956, he moved the family to Texas City to work for Monsanto Chemicals (later Sterling Chemicals). He went on to retire as a Maintenance Foreman after 33 years. Ed married Lillie Sue Williams in 2009 and lived his later years in Bullard, Texas.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge #1118 and Eastern Star #626 in Texas City for over 50 years, a 32nd degree Shriner and Scottish Rite Mason in Galveston for over 50 years. Ed loved his family, his church, Mt. Carmel B.C., and often enjoyed playing 42 with Bullard Seniors on Tuesdays at the church. He was an avid hunter of deer, quail, and turkey, a fierce LSU fan, and loved working in his garden and growing his pecan trees.
Ed was preceded in death by his 1st wife of 55 years, Betty Dowden, parents, William (Billy) M. Dowden and Willie Dowden, brothers, Huey Dowden, Bill Dowden, Hubert Dowden, and Joseph Dowden, sisters, Eleanor Withers, Earl Chance, and Eunice Trahan.
He is survived by his wife, Lillie Sue Dowden, daughter, Cindy Haden (Mike), son, Roger E. Dowden (Terry), granddaughters, Courtney Sicignano (Anthony) and Chelsea Dowden, grandson, Ryan Haden (Katie), great grandchildren, Elise and Jude. And also stepsons, Mike Williams (Sharon), Terry Williams (Brenda), Don Williams, a special family friend, Marie Haden, and a heartfelt thank you to step granddaughter, Kristen James and family for her extraordinary loving care.
