Efton John "E.J." was born March 28, 1930 on Jefferson Island, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2023. E.J. is preceded in death by his parents, Harrison and Donatile LeLeux, his beloved wife Betty F. LeLeux, and his two adored children, son David T. LeLeux, and daughter, Marla K. LeLeux Kappus.
E.J. is survived by his favorite daughter-in-law, Donna LeLeux; favorite son-in-law, David Kappus; his adored and spoiled grandsons, Zachariah Ross LeLeux, and wife Hannah LeLeux, Elijah Jake "E.J." LeLeux; great grandson, Efton Gene LeLeux and great granddaughter, Elaine June "E.J." LeLeux; his beloved only sister, Janet Raymond and husband Raymond David; his favorite niece, Lisa Boudreaux, husband Carlton and family; beloved nephew, Ray David; nephew Tim Moon, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The legacy of E.J. began the day he met Betty Frances Moon, his wife of 58 years. E.J. and Betty met at a a teen dance club in New Iberia and they said they knew after their first dance.
E.J. who was in the Air Force, told Betty trying to impress her, that he flew a "ST37," which for those of you that dont know... is actually mouthwash! He also offered Betty a ride home that night... he failed to mention he did not own a car! And always the charmer, E.J. told Betty... "Je t'aime autant qu'n cochon aime la boue!" Betty was smitten and very impressed by his ability to speak fluent French... only later did she discover it translate to "I love you as much as a pig loves mud."
E.J. and Betty married on June 15, 1949, while he was a Corporal at the Kessler Air Force Base, Mississippi. Upon leaving the Air Force, he began his career of forty years as a roughneck with Humble Oil, Esso and finally Exxon and was a Supervisor when he retired.
After six years, David Todd was born on Christmas Day. E.J. loved to tell the story of how he has peanut butter crackers and a coke for Christmas dinner! David Todd was fond of saying he had "a very, very happy life and then on March 15, 1959, Marla Kay was born!!!"
Marla Kay married David Wayne Kappus "Marla's Navy SEAL" establishing Kappus as E.J.'s favorite son-in-law and David Todd married Donna, establishing Donna as E.J.'s favorite daughter-in-law. But as it has been described... they all lost their crowns when E.J. and Betty received Zach and Elijah, the adored, spoiled grandsons.
Zach lost his crown when he bought home his future wife, Hannah and Elijah lost his crown when he brought home Alexa! Every time Hannah's name was mentioned, E.J. would say "I sure do love Hannah, she's so sweet! Upon meeting Alexa, E.J. would say to Elijah, " she sure is pretty, tall and smart, you better never let her go because someone will scoop her up fast!'
And finally, Efton Gene and Elaine June arrived...... and new crowns were issued by E.J.!
