Euquerio Omar Bustamante passed away on July 28, 2019 at the age of 80 years old. Omar was born in Zapata, Texas on April 6, 1939 to Euquerio and Lilia Bustamante. He was the brother to two sisters, Yolanda (deceased) and Nelda.
Omar grew up in Laredo, Texas and after graduating high school, joined the Army in 1959. After serving, he attended the University of Utah and graduated in 1966 with a sociology degree. During his time in Utah, he met his first wife, Sharon, and had two children, a daughter (Monica) and a son (Tony). In 1966, Omar again joined the Army and bravely served during the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of Captain upon his honorable discharge from the Army in 1970.
In 1971, while living in San Antonio, he met his soulmate for the next 48 years of his life, Olga Diaz. The two were married on July 3, 1971. They later moved to Houston, Texas and started their family with two boys (Luis and Carlo). The family moved to League City, Texas in 1979.
Omar had many careers in his life: soldier, peace officer, plumber, refinery worker; but his true love was being a teacher, counselor, and grant writer. He retired from HCC (Houston Community College) in 2004.
Omar enjoyed reading about philosophy, writing poetry, and discussing current events with family and friends; but his passion was being “Tata” to his grandchildren.
Omar is survived by his wife, Olga; sister, Nelda; four children, Monica, Tony, Luis, and Carlo; daughters-in-law, Kari, Charlene, Marye; and six grandchildren, Joshua, Jaxon, Alex, Vinson, Beck, and Cade.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 am to 10:00 am on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas 77598. A Celebration of Omar’s life and reception will follow.
