Marie was a loving wife to John “Jay” Johnson, loving mom to 3 children, and loving sister to six siblings. Being the second oldest to a family with seven kids she helped raise the 3 youngest siblings which prepared her to be an amazing mom. Marie loved being a homemaker wife and mother.
She loved to cook and sew for her family and friends. She is remembered for her wonderful coffee cake and shrimp gumbo. She would often stay up late sewing stuffed animals for Christmas and stuffed bears to raise money for the church choir trips. Marie loved to read, fish and garden and keep her yard the envy of her neighbors. Most of all she was “SAVED” by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was known as a Praying Mom!
Marie is preceded in death by her husband Jay Johnson, parents Herman E and Evie Mae Guice, brothers Herman, James, and George Guice.
Marie leaves behind two sisters, Sarah Madden and her husband Melvin; Vera Steed and husband Jacky; one brother Arthur Guice and wife Cathy; three children, son Jimmy Holmes and wife Judy; daughter Darlene Bledsoe and husband Kim, and son Ray Johnson; eight grandchildren, Amanda Huck, Justin Holmes, Jarred Holmes, Kyle Ray, Tyler Ray, Devan Johnson, Ambrosia Johnson, Alexxys Johnson and a host of great grandchildren; cousins nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends.
Services will be held at Forest Park East Funeral Home at 10:00am Monday, February 21, 2022. A committal service will occur following the funeral at South Park Cemetery. Viewing will be Sunday the 20th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Forest Park East Funeral Home.
