With the deepest love and gratitude, we say goodbye to our beloved father, Fernando Romero Medina, a devoted husband, our tender and steadfast father, a proud grandfather, and the heart of our family. His life was a beautiful testament to quiet strength, endless dedication, and the kind of love that shaped every one of us.
Born in the lively coastal city of Tuxpan, Veracruz, Dad carried from his earliest days a spirit full of purpose, discipline, and a genuine passion for life. Those qualities guided him through every moment of his remarkable 104 years.
His journey brought him to Mexico City, where he pursued his university studies and began building the life he held most dear. Destiny guided him to Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua; it was there that he met the love of his life, our mother, Estela Borja. Together they shared an extraordinary love story, 74 years of marriage filled with deep respect, tenderness, and an unbreakable commitment that became the foundation of everything we know about love.
Dad and Mom raised the nine of us in a home overflowing with warmth, structure, and unwavering support. He was a father who balanced gentle firmness with the softest affection and was always ready with a word of encouragement, or that proud smile that helped build our self-esteem. We are forever grateful for the love he poured into each of us: Marina, Ricardo (sp. Luz Elena), Isabel (sp. Jaime), Fernando (sp. Karin), Elvira (sp. Marco), Patricia (sp. Armando), Juan (sp. Virginia), Carlos (sp. Kimberly), and Norma (sp. Ricardo). He delighted in his grandchildren: Isidro, Karla (sp. Ruben), Ricardo, Claudia (sp. James), Jaime (sp. Sonia), Susana (sp. Miguel Angel), Adrian (sp. Karla), Alejandra (sp. Jeffrey), Fernando (sp. Selena), Melissa (sp. Eric), Regina (sp. Gabriel), Gabriela (sp. Jake), David (sp. Lauren), Phillip (Kristen), Nicolas, Daniel, Eric, Bria, Laura, and Eusebia, and his many precious great-grandchildren, who brought such joy to his later years.
Dad found his true calling surrounded by books. For many years he worked in and eventually became a partner in several beloved local bookstores. To him, books were gateways to new worlds, knowledge, and opportunity. He poured his heart into making sure every single one of his nine children went to college.
Even as he worked tirelessly to provide for us, Dad always made time for joy. Music was his happy place: the lively rhythms of tropical songs and boleros, the elegant grace of danzón, and those big band melodies that filled the house with energy. We can still picture him tapping his feet and Mom humming melodies. Dancing brought a sparkle to his eyes and a happy smile.
Our father, Fernando Romero Medina, leaves behind a legacy woven with love, hard work, the gift of education, and a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys. His story lives on in every one of us, in the family he nurtured with such care, the values he instilled so gently, and the countless memories that still bring smiles through our tears.
Dad, we love you more than words can say. You will be forever in our hearts, deeply missed, and remembered with the warmest gratitude and endless affection by all of us who were so blessed to call you father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and the very center of our world.
