Florence “Flo” McLarty Barth of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully on July 25, 2018 at the age of 89 surrounded by loved ones. Florence was born January 18, 1929 in Kosciusko, Mississippi to William A. Hemphill Sr. and Alice Beatrice Hemphill. As a young adult, she worked as a dental assistant in Jackson, Mississippi where she met and married her husband Norris Shannon “Mac” McLarty on May 27, 1955. They had five children together and relocated to Houston in 1962. Mac passed away in 1995.
Florence was a dedicated member of Forest Oaks Baptist Church in Houston, Texas for many years. Florence had a love for music, singing and dancing.
Florence married Bill Barth on January 18, 2008. They shared a love of dancing, watching movies together and enjoyed each other’s company.
Florence is preceded in death by her parents William and Beatrice Hemphill, husband Norris “Mac” Shannon, brothers James Robert, William (Buddy) Jr. and John Allen Hemphill and stepdaughter Becki Mae Price.
Florence is survived by her husband, Bill Barth, daughter Deedy Justice, sons Pat McLarty and fiancée Tanya, Michael McLarty and wife Diane, Kelly McLarty and wife Cathy, and Dennis McLarty and wife Renee and, stepson Billy Barth and wife Connie. Florence also has numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren who were the light of her life.
Visitation will be held Sunday, July 29 from 9:30-10:30am in the Chapel of Forest Park East Funeral Home. A Celebration of Florence’s Life will begin at 10:30am with a committal service immediately to follow at Forest Park East Cemetery. Afterwards, guests are invited to a fellowship reception from 11:45-1:45pm in the Reflections Room at Forest Park East Funeral Home.
