Frances Anderson Gordon, age 91, passed away on December 28, 2023.
Frances was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi on May 9, 1932 to Michael Tolar and Dietra “D.O.” Hutchins. She grew up with her Aunt Frances in Belzoni, Mississippi and absolutely loved her childhood in the Mississippi delta. When Frances was in college, she took a trip with her girlfriends to Europe, and while she was there, she snuck on a boat to north Africa much to the surprise and dismay of their chaperone. She always loved recounting that memory, and her adventurous spirit and love of people continued throughout her life. Fran was a savvy businesswoman with an altruistic spirit. Over her 91 years, she started many businesses, and even more importantly, she participated in many charitable causes. She was committed to serving her community and those in need. Most recently, she served on the Webster zoning committee planning the local 4th of July celebration, and it was always a grand affair.
Fran was a debutante through and through, she was glamorous, charming, and for nearly 90 years, Fran’s heels were high and her hair was higher. She was an absolute shining star. Fran enjoyed participating in local theater, playing cards, especially when she was winning, framing pictures and reading novels. Fran’s homes were always filled with pictures of her adventures, accomplishments and loved ones.
She was a firm believer in Jesus and an active member of the Baptist church. She always had a Bible verse ready to share when anyone needed to hear an encouraging word. She knew life was a series of struggles, but she did not let it get her down or challenge her faith.
Fran was a mother, grandmother to two grandchildren and a great-grandmother to two adoring great grandchildren, all of whom will miss her big smile, her zest for life and most of all her love for her family.
Fran is survived by her son, Michael Tarlton and his wife Arlinda, her daughter, Terrilyn Tarlton Shannon and her husband Albert, her granddaughter, Morgan Tarlton Hotzel and her husband, Blake and their children Henry and Noelle, and her grandson Clayton Lohman.
Frances’s family will host a private memorial service to honor her life. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
