Gloria was a strong willed, fiery young woman who forged her own path early in her adulthood. However, it wasn’t until 1963 she and first husband Jay Busey founded The Huckster Company in Houston, Texas. In 1983, after Jay’s passing, Huckster became a solely woman owned business and took off. Gloria was a businesswoman by birth and was known for her work ethic, intellect, and quick wit for the duration of the almost 50 years running the business. Her kids knew her as “Mom” and her grandkids as “Mimi”, while folks at the office respectfully referred to her as Mrs. Terry, or “Miz T”. Although Gloria did not attend University, she bled maroon for her Texas A&M Aggies and never missed a game on television. Gloria was a diehard Astros fan, but could be caught watching mostly College football and basketball alike.
She loved steak nights and scrabble and spending time with her family most. She impacted so many lives and served as a mentor to dozens, but most importantly she was loved and will be missed dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents R.B. Barbee and Johnnie Sabo; first husband Jay J. Busey; second husband Melvin Glenn Terry; sons John Jay Busey and Ward A. Busey; and grandson Zackery Busey.
She is survived by son Brad L. Busey and wife Joy; daughter Robin Olivares and husband Joey; 9 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Gloria will be held Wednesday, December 15, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home. A funeral service will be on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home with committal to follow at Forest Park East Cemetery.
