

Harold James Brown, 90, of League City passed away on May 4, 2025, in Webster, Texas. He was born on April 25, 1935, in Webster City, Iowa to Harold Russell Brown and Margaret Cecelia Bateman Brown.
Jim graduated from Albia High School, Albia, Iowa, in 1953. He earned a degree in mathematics and business management at Parsons College, Fairfield, Iowa in 1957 where he was an active member of Sigma Phi Epsilon.
He met Rema Lou Johnson at the first college mixer in 1953, and they married in 1957. They had 2 sons, James William and Dennis Michael.
Jim taught high school math at Mid-Prairie School District, Wellman, Iowa before he became a programmer for AC Electronics in Milwaukee and later at MIT in Boston where he worked on the Agena on-board guidance system.
While in college he had joined the Iowa National Guard and trained as a medical corpsman at Fort Sam Houston. He transferred to the Wisconsin National Guard and completed his service as an SFC.
The family moved to Texas when Jim joined Univac, a contractor in the NASA aerospace industry. He remained with them as the corporation transitioned into Unisys, and he eventually joined United Space Alliance as a Project Manager supporting the Space Shuttle Astronaut Training program.
He proudly served as a Galveston County deputy voter registrar and as a Democratic Party precinct chair.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and by his son, Dennis. He is survived by Rema Lou, his wife of 67 years, his son James and his wife Trish Philyaw; his daughter-in-law Annette Elkins; 3 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and many extended family members, friends and colleagues.
Visitation for Jim is on Monday, May 19, 2025, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm with a service to start at 2:00 pm and a committal and reception to follow. All services will be held at Forest Park East Funeral Home and Cemetery, located at 21620 Gulf Freeway in Webster, Texas.
