

He was born on February 28, 1937 in Port Arthur, Texas to William Percy Culp and Mildred McManus Culp. Mr. Culp attended Thomas Jefferson High School and Lamar University. He married Brenda O’Hara 53 years ago in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Culp established Southland Insurance Agency in Houston in the early 1970’s and conducted business until retirement. Herb and Brenda retired in Galveston, Texas in the home he built overlooking the Galveston Bay. This home was his pride and joy, he spent years perfecting the design and oversaw the construction every step of the way. The couple returned to Sugar Land in 2013 to be closer to family. His hobbies included designing and building custom luxury homes in Galveston, collecting nautical antiques, researching his family ancestry and spending time with family.
Mr. Culp is preceded in death by his father Percy, mother Mildred, brother Allen Culp, sister-in-law Betsy Culp, and mother-in-law Irene O’Hara Jerome.
He is survived by his wife Brenda Culp, daughter Caren Culp Sion and her husband John Sion and grandsons Nicholas and Stratton, his brother Tom Culp and wife Marie Culp, sisters-in-law Betty O’Hara and Carol Culp, nephew Tommy Culp, Jr., nieces Catherine Culp Resnick and Cindy Culp Oxford.
At Herb’s request, his immediate family will have a private farewell in lieu of a funeral service. He has also requested no flowers. His favorite organization was the Make A Wish Foundation.
