John Franklin "Jack" Armstrong, Sr. died peacefully, surrounded by his four children, in Nassau Bay, Texas, of natural causes on Thursday, March 24, 2016. He was 91 years old. Jack was born on January 1, 1925 in Portland, Oregon to Charles Franklin Armstrong and Naomi Stengel Armstrong. He married to the former Mary Eileen "Peggy" Farrior of Chattanooga, Tennessee on October 6, 1945. During World War II, Jack served in the Army Air Corps as a flight engineer on B-29s. He earned an Electrical Engineering degree from Vanderbilt University, graduating second in his engineering class with a 4.0 average. He worked as a petroleum and corrosion engineer, and spent the majority of his career as VP, President, and CEO of Permian Enterprises of Odessa, Texas. He and Peggy lived in Midland, Texas for 38 years and most recently Nassau Bay. He was a Life Master of Bridge, and a voracious reader. Active in the Presbyterian church, he served as a Deacon, Ruling Elder, and Moderator of the Tres Rios Presbytery. He was also active in the United Way, volunteered at the Midland Public Library, and was on numerous boards and committees. He was President of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers and President of the Texas Tech Dad's Club.
He is survived by his daughter, Anne Churchill and husband, Kevin of Nassau Bay, with whom he lived for five years; daughter, Kathy Alexander and husband
Shane of Southlake, Texas; daughter, Emily Scott and husband David of Southlake; and son, Reverend John F. Armstrong, Jr. and wife Cyndy of Frederick, Maryland. Grandchildren include Reverend Kathleen and Tim Davies, Nicholas and Jodi Churchill, Nathan Alexander, Joshua and Cara Alexander, Sarah Alexander Barber and husband Mark, Seth and Holli Alexander, Garrett Scott, Drew Scott, Corrie Scott, John F. Armstrong, III and wife Mary Claire, Jennette Armstrong Sweetman and husband Nathan. Great-grandchildren include Sarah Churchill, Shelby Dorriss, Bennett Davies, and Anne Davies.
He is preceded in death by his precious wife of 67 years, Peggy. The service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 28, 2016, at A Community of the Servant Savior Presbyterian Church in Houston, Texas. The service will be officiated by Reverend Kathleen Davies and Reverend John F. Armstrong, Jr. Pallbearers will be the grandsons and great-grandson of the deceased. There will be a reception following the service at the church. Interment will take place at Forest Park East in a family-only graveside service, held prior to the service at the church.
