

John Harris died on August 6, 2016 from injuries he sustained in a car accident on July 15, 2016. Big John was born on November 4, 1928 in Galveston, Texas to John Harris Jr. and Marie C. Fretwell. He was 87 at the time of his passing. He was a resident of Santa Fe, Texas but previously resided in La Marque.
He was employed with Carnation Milk Co. for 25 years as a driver before retiring to take a job with Galveston County Road and Maintence Department where he worked until his second retirement in 1990. John was a proud member of Teamsters Local 998 for 25 years and still attended the retiree meetings when he could. Big John was a long time member and board member of Santa Fe Seniors. One of the things he enjoyed most was calling bingo for all of his lady players.
Mr. Harris is survived by his wife of 50 years, Emmy Lou Harris; four sons, John D. Harris and wife Brandy, Mike W. Brouillard and wife Debbie, Barry N. Brouillard and wife Cindy and Thomas H. Brouillard and wife Jez; son in law, Dr. Stanley Higgs and wife Barbara; ten grandchildren, Kim Ross and husband David, Amanda Wenke and husband Trent, Michelle Brouillard, Dr. Jason Harris and wife Samantha, Will Higgs and wife Jennifer, Corey Parker and husband Brad, Jarrod Clark, Jessica Griffith and husband Adam, Justin Brouillard and wife Danielle, Dr. Lisa Higgs-Harbula and husband Alex; 13 great grandchildren, cousin and so many friends that they can’t all be counted. Pallbearers will be Mr. Harris’ grandsons.
Big John never met a stranger and loved to travel, hunt and fish. He and Emmy Lou had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a 14 day cruise to South America. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Forest Park East, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas 77598. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church of Santa Fe, 13217 FM 1764 Rd., Santa Fe, TX 77510. Interment to follow at Forest Park East Cemetery, Webster, Texas.
Paw Paw will be missed very much by all who knew and loved him. He was everyone’s Paw Paw. Rest in peace Dad you didn’t lose the fight you just ran out of time.
