

John Elmer Overbeck, Jr. 86, of Alvin, Texas passed away October 18, 2017 in Galveston, Texas. John was born in San Antonio, Texas on June, 6, 1931 to John E. and Ida Mae Overbeck. The family moved to Galveston, Texas and John attended Kerwin High School. John was married to Josephine Overbeck for 45 years until her passing in 2002. John (Jake to his coworkers) worked in the roofing and lumber business and was employed at McCoys for 44 years until his retirement in 1996.
John was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 554 and the VFW 6378. John was a proud Marine and served his country in the Korean war from 1950-1952.
In his younger days Johns passion was his horses and trail riding. Later in life his passion became guns and at any given time he loved to talk about guns and show off his collection. John loved his cajun and country music. Many times you could her him singing along and even though he could not carry a tune in a bucket his family loved to hear him sing. On holidays he loved to have his family over to visit were he would reminisce about his time in the Marine Corps and the Korean war days. After holiday dinner John was always up for playing Penny Annie Poker and would get his bucket of rolled coins out to play. He would be sure to remind anyone who tried to bet more than a quarter that there would be no high rollers at his table.
John was preceded in death by his parents John and Ida Mae Overbeck. Wife Josephine Overbeck, Daughter Rhonda Jackson. Brothers Richard, Mickey, Jerry, Eugene Overbeck and sister Dorothy Worthen
He is survived by sons Joe Overbeck, wife Donna. Johnny Overbeck III, wife Deborah. Daughter Cheryl Eskew, husband Tommy, Son in law Marvin Jackson, Brothers Walter, Robert, and Louis Overbeck.
Grandchildren Tonya Kaw, John Overbeck IV, Jason Overbeck, Justin Perez, Latisha Overbeck, Veronica Scott, Monica Barnes, Jared Overbeck, Richie and Laura Kelty, Rhonda Jimenez, Jennie Alanis, Michael Jackson.
Great Grandchildren Zackary Kaw, John V, Jayda, Jacob Overbeck, Allison Overbeck, Madison and Mikey Emerick, Emillia Perez, Skylar and Tyler Barnes, Cadence Preston, Laiken Youngblood, Jaxson Overbeck, Clayton and Katlin Scott.
The family will receive friends Monday, October 23, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Sacred Heart Church 1302 Broadway Ave. J., Galveston, Texas 77550. Funeral Service will be at Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 2:00 pm. Interment to immediately follow at Forest Park East Cemetery 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas 77598.
