Joyce Leatherman passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on Saturday, December 24, 2011. She joined her beloved husband, Charles Richard Leatherman, in the kingdom of God. She was born on July 17, 1926 in Breaux Bridge Louisiana to George and Yolanda Breaux.
Joyce was also preceded in death by her two brothers, James and John Breaux, of Breaux Bridge Louisiana. She is survived by her loving children Dee Dee Cater and son in law, Harry Cater, of Kerrville, Texas; Lowell Leatherman and daughter in law, Joan Leatherman of Huntsville, Texas; Deborah Kelting of Houston, Texas; and Charmaine Pilgrim and son in law, George Pilgrim of Houston, Texas. To her grandchildren, John Leatherman, Terra Leatherman, Justin Pilgrim, Amber Davis, Kevin Pilgrim, Dylan Leal, Blake Kelting, Bryan Kelting, and Peyton Raney she was known as “Nanny”. Nanny is survived by 11 great children, Miranda Raney, Jacklyn Raney, Mariah Leatherman, Kaden Leatherman, David Lenard, Chris Lenard, Kaleb Pilgrim, Bradley Davis, Alejandro Gutierrez, Ariana Pilgrim, and Charles Pilgrim. Joyce is survived by her brother, Donald Breaux and sister in law, Judy Breaux, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Nanny’s claim to fame was her great sense of humor and charismatic personality. Everyone that surrounded her was sure to wear a smile. She spent her early years as the best homemaker ever. All of her daughters’ clothes were hand sewn with matching petticoats made with love. Her gumbo was second to none and enjoyed by friends and family alike. In her later years, Joyce was a career woman in the entertainment business working with the Astros. She later worked in show business with Harper Wood Electric where she retired.
Nanny touched our lives and will be a light in our hearts forever.
A viewing will be held from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday, December 29 with a Rosary recited at 7:00 pm at Forest Park East Funera Home. Memorial services will follow on Friday, December 30 at 12:30pm at Forest Park East.
