

Kurt Alfred Auffarber, 96, died peacefully at his home on September 24, 2010 in Seabrook, Texas surrounded by family. Kurt was born March 31, 1914 IN New Orleans, Louisiana, to German immigrants, the late Lina and Alfred Auffarber. He attended Easton High School in New Orleans, graduating in 1931 and began taking business classes at Tulane University. He moved to Houston in the mid 1930’s. He married Bessie Parker and began work at the U.S Postal Service in 1939. He served in World War II in the European Theatre from 1942-1944 until he received emergency leave to return home to care for his terminally ill wife. He also cared for his mother for several years before her death in 1956. He met Dolores McClelland in 1952 and they were married in 1957. They had two children, Stephen and Karen. During his active years with the Post Office, he was involved in the National Association of Postal Supervisors, where he held many offices. After retirement, he frequently attended NARFE activities when he was able. His hobbies included fishing, camping, and watching any and all sports. He frequently attended Astros and Rockets games with his family and any game his children and grandchildren played as well. He retired from the Post Office in 1980 after 40 years of service. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in downtown Houston from the time he moved to Houston until his death. He lived near downtown Houston in the same house in Lindale Park from 1940-2008 when he moved to Seabrook to be near his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lina and Alfred Auffarber. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dolores; son Stephen Auffarber and his wife Gail; daughter Karen Auffarber Todd and her husband, William; grandson, Stephen Thomas Auffarber, and his wife Emily; granddaughters Kristen Nicole Todd and Kari Brooke Todd; great-grandchildren Carolina Rose Auffarber, Lyndon Thomas Auffarber, and the future Layne Joseph Auffarber, due this year. He was especially proud that the Auffarber name will live on with two new Auffarber boys in recent years. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Trinity Lutheran Church HUG Campaign, 800 Houston Ave., Houston, TX 77007 or a charity of your choice. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm, Monday, September 27, 2010. Services and interment will be held on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at 10 am at Forest Park East Funeral Home in Webster, Texas with Pastor David Leeland from Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.
