

Leona Rowena Huskey Kohn died peacefully Thursday morning, August 14th, at the age of 87. Services and visitation will be held at Forest Park East Funeral Home and Cemetery located at 21620 Gulf Freeway in Webster, Texas on September 17th. Visitation begins at 1:00 pm followed by a service at 2:00 pm officiated by Pastor Tammy Sharp. Burial services will follow immediately at Forest Park Cemetery.
Leona was born on October 23, 1937, in Galveston, Texas. As a child and into adulthood Leona worked for many years for her parents who owned and operated the Sovola and Roberta “Huskey Bait Camp” on 61st street. She met her husband of 70 years, Arthur Olaf Kohn, in Galveston. They were married on November 5, 1954. Leona was a graduate of Ball High School, Class of 1955 and Leona attended College of the Mainland. Leona worked for the Santa Fe Independent School District for over 20 years in numerous positions ending as head of payroll, followed by a career as executive secretary and head of accounts payable at Haldor Topsoe Inc. in Clear Lake, Texas that lasted 14 years until her retirement. Her hobbies included baking, crocheting, genealogy, scrapbooking, and for many years she raised and bred exotic birds including Blue and Gold Macaws, African Grey Parrots, Cockatoos, Cockatiels, Conures, Canaries, Parakeets, and many other types of exotic birds. Leona was a regular at Boot Kikkers Bingo Hall attending bingo with her best friend, Joyce McDonald (also a Ball High Graduate), at every opportunity. She also loved to attend her monthly Ball High School alumni luncheons and Senior Day at the Galveston County Fair each year.
She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Arthur Olaf Kohn Jr., by her parents Sovola Ledford Huskey Sr. and Nora Roberta Billingsley Huskey, her sister Betty Joyce Huskey Davis and brother-in-law Raymond Dallas Davis Jr.; brother-in-law Robert B. Kohn Sr.; sister-in-law Betty Jean Kohn; nephew Robert B. Kohn Jr.; brother-in-law William Kohn; sister-in-law Ethyl Kohn; niece Joan Kohn; brother-in-law Elmer Kohn; nephew Richard R. Kohn
She is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years, Arthur Olaf Kohn Sr.; and two sons, Timothy R. Kohn and wife, Pamela E. Kohn of Waco, Texas and Mark Sovola Kohn of Santa Fe, Texas; Daughter-in-law, Mara Kohn of Nokesville, Virginia along with her six grandchildren Lauren Kohn, Meagan Kohn, T. Randall Kohn, Shelby Kohn, Arthur O. Kohn III (Trae), and Jennifer Sheffield; and one great-grandson Christian Rivera; her brother, Sovola Ledford Huskey Jr. and wife, Francina; niece Stephaine Joyce Davis Blasé and husband Ronald; niece Marieta Huskey Frazier and husband Donald ; niece Deborah Kohn; niece Nancy Kohn; nephew Keith H. Huskey and wife Rhonda; many cousins, great nieces and great nephews and life-long friends Joyce McDonald and Bonnie Kovich both of Santa Fe, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Timothy Randall Kohn, Timothy Randall Kohn Jr., Ronald Blasé, Keith H. Huskey, Kristopher Robert Kizer, and Joey Lain.
Honorary pallbearers are Mark Sovola Kohn, Arthur Olaf Kohn III (Trae), Shelby Maree Kohn, Jennifer Sheffield, Christian Rivera, Lauren Nicole Kohn, and Meagan Leigh Kohn.
Leona's life was celebrated for her compassion, dedication, and the warmth she shared with everyone around her. Her memory will continue to inspire all those she touched.
