

Lillian Theresa Brooks, 97, passed away on March 29, 2023 from complications of a stroke. She was born on April 6, 1925 to Felix Jean Baptiste Breaux and Florence Josephine LeBlanc in Pierre Part, Louisiana. She was the third of five children. She was married to Parker Lanier Cates, the father of Jo Ann, Monica Lea, and Deborah. Married to Samuel Eustace Brooks, Jr. since December 30, 1957, they had two children Glen Allen and Polly Anna. They were married for 65 years at the time of her death.
Lillian worked for several companies during her life, including the opening of SoHo Babyland, a day care center for children six weeks to two years of age. She retired in 1980 and began taking painting lessons and becoming an avid painter. She was a seamstress, quilt maker, and terrific cook. Lillian was Sam’s fishing companion and gardening partner.
Lillian was active in St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, including being president of the Women’s Club and Altar Guild. She was also a member of the Pasadena Art League and won several blue ribbons in art shows.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Alvin Breaux, Lydia Lizarraga, Livian Bourgeois, Harvey Breaux, and infant son Glen Allen Brooks. She is survived by her husband, Samuel Eustace Brooks, Jr., daughters Jo Ann Walton, Monica Hasty, Deborah Trahan, Polly Richards (Scott), and stepson Guy Brooks. Also survived by grandchildren Dee Dee Johnston (Troy), Christopher Heath (Debbie), Craig Heath (Veronica), Jennifer Eaves (Robby), Victoria Gary, Joseph “Matt” Hasty (Katherine Diershaw), Amber Friedman, Shawn Trahan (Tyler), Evan Richards, and Julie Richards; and great-grandchildren Nathan Johnston, Jacob Johnston (Sierra), Bryana Heath, Duncan Heath, Kayla Heath, Jordan Heath, Kya Eaves, Preston Eaves, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 10727 Hartsook, Houston, TX 77034, at 9:00 AM with funeral mass following at 10:00 AM.
