
Lloyd Charles Jackson passed away on August 1, 2014 at his home in Humble, Texas. He was 64. Lloyd was born January 26,1950 in Galveston, Texas to Dorthia and Charlie Jackson. He attended Central High School in Galveston, Texas graduating in 1968. He continued his education at Merritt Community College in Oakland, California where he discovered his love of writing and became a poet. At the time of his death, Lloyd was writing two books: one about his childhood in Galveston and the other about his grandsons, who he nicked named Spen Jack and JD. Lloyd’s interest included politics and news. He was an avid watcher of MSNBC and loved to argue politics. His favorite past times were playing chess with his grandsons and watching them play football and basketball. He is survived by his daughters, Dawnica Jackson of Humble and Tokoina Jackson of Richmond, California; Grandsons Spencer Jackson of Humble, and Julian Clerk of Richmond, California; brothers, George Serges and Samuel Jackson of Humble; Hugh Jackson of Galveston; Bruce Serges of LaMarque; Lamar and Charlie Jackson of Houston; sisters Gladys-Jean McHenry and her husband Paul of Houston; Gussie Smith of Houston; Genova Oppenhaimer of Lufkin; Barbara Bordelon and her husband Michael of Texas City; several nephews and nieces and a host of lifelong friends. Lloyd is predeceased in death by his mother and stepfather, Dorthia Serges-Scott and Johnnie Serges; his father Charlie Jackson; his grandmother, Lillian Wriddings; his sisters Johnnie Mae Chatman, Maryetta Jackson and Linda Jackson-Kopp; and his brother Kelvin Serges. Lloyd’s grandson Spencer would like everyone to know he was the best grandfather and that he will represent him at every basketball game he plays.
At his request no services will be held. Lloyd asked for a party to be thrown in his honor. The memorial celebration will be held on August 23, 2014. For more information on the memorial, please email the family at [email protected].
