Louis, 89, of Houston, TX passed away Friday August 31, 2018. He was born in Houston, TX on July 21, 1929 to Paula and Augustin Hernandez. Louis grew up in the near East Side. After he was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps, he married Lucila Garcia and settled in the Second Ward of Houston’s East Side, where they raised their family.
Louis had a career in the industrial baking industry, for many years. He was dedicated to the organized labor movement until his retirement in 1996. Louis was a member of the Baker & Confectionary & Tobacco Workers Union for his entire adult working life. He held several positions in the local union and was appointed to the position of International Representative. Louis loved his community of Second Ward and served the residents of his community in many ways.
Louis was preceded in death by his wife Lucille. He is survived by his sons Louis A. Hernandez and wife Donna of Spicewood, TX, Michael A. Hernandez and wife Ruth, Richard A. Hernandez and wife Liz, Gilbert A. Hernandez and wife Annette, Edward A. Hernandez and wife Angie, Philip A. Hernandez and wife Rosa, and Christopher A. Hernandez and wife Cicely, all of Houston, TX. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday, September 7, 2018 from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Rosary recited at 7:00 pm at Forest Park East Funeral Home 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas 77598. Mass will be Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church 11011 Hall Road, Houston, Texas 77089.
