Margarete was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years John W. Nicholson.
As a long-time parishioner of Saint Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church in Houston she became a Eucharistic Minister. When not tending to her Catholic duties she volunteered for over 23 years at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center’s gift shop where she would comfort patients and their families with candies and keepsakes like (her favorite) Beanie Babies stuffed animals.
Margarete was gifted with many talents. As a certified swim instructor, she taught generations of children how to swim. She was an avid traveler stepping foot on almost every continent. She visited The Holy Land, the Vatican, The Great Pyramid of Giza, The Great Wall of China and many more. Her true passion though was playing cards, no matter the game. She was a masterful player of poker especially Texas Hold’em. A fearless player she competed against some of the best poker players in the nation.
Christmas was her favorite holiday of all. Enlisting the help of friends and family she turned her home into an elegant display of Christmas pageantry. She was always on the lookout for anything Christmas related covering every inch of her house with Christmas décor.
Margarete was a beloved member of the BellaVita community. Since moving there in 2005, the friends and memories she made were precious and very dear to her.
She is survived by Sharon of Oregon, Robert and wife Kathleen of Alvin, Charlotte and husband Michael Prather of Rosharon, Lora of Galveston, Scott and wife Terri of Friendswood and John Jon of Houston. Her five grandchildren Thomas J. and wife Chrissy Cox of Arizona, Syrena Nicholson of California, Jackie and husband Charles Carlock of Singapore, Felicia Weir of Houston, Chase Nicholson of Friendswood and her four great grandchildren Emalyn and Anna Cox, Hunter and Addyson Lee Carlock.
