

Marjorie Elizabeth Wait Griffiths, 97, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, November 9, 2014. Marjorie was born to Estella and Bert Wait in Wichita Falls, Texas on June 20, 1917. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years Robert Griffiths, her daughter Ann Elizabeth, her two sons Jerry and Michael Griffiths, her parents, and her seven brothers and sisters. Marjorie graduated from Reagan High School in the Heights where she met her future husband whom she married November 24, 1938 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Marjorie’s passing marks the end of a generation of family. She will be greatly missed by all who love her. One of the highlights of Marjorie’s life was the time she and Bob spent living in southern France while Bob worked for Hughes Tool Company. During the years they lived in Tarbes they made many close friends from France, Ireland, Great Britain, and the US, and enjoyed exploring the Pyrenees Mountain region and Spain with their friends and family. Marjorie lived for family and was happiest when preparing for and hosting family gatherings especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Marjorie is survived by her devoted daughter Carole Porcher and her husband Bryan, her daughters-in-law Mary and Dr. Suzel Griffiths, grandchildren Julie Carta (Bruce) of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Ginger Manton (Rob) of Georgetown, Texas, Michelle Bradford (John ) of Alvin, Texas, Matthew Griffiths of Houston, Elizabeth Boggess (Albert) of Houston, Robert Griffiths of Houston, numerous great, and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and her faithful feline companion and caregiver Bootsy. The family would like to give special thanks to Marjorie’s loving companions and caregivers Judy Rettinger and Barbara McNemar. Without their devoted care, Marjorie would not have been able to remain in her home until her death as she wished. Visitation will be held at Forest Park East Cemetery, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas from 5 – 7PM Wednesday, November 12, 2014. Funeral services, officiated by Father Geoff Gwynn, will be held Thursday, November 13, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 1207 West Winding Way Drive, Friendswood, Texas, followed by graveside service at Forest Park East Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Russell Wait, Johnny Barcak, John Bradford, Matthew Griffiths, Owen Bradford, and Jim McDaniel. A reception will follow at Marjorie’s home in Friendswood.
