Martha Nan Baines Larson, age 83, passed away Friday, January 28, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Gordo, Alabama to Rasy Marion and Basha Mae Baines on October 8, 1938. Martha graduated from Gordo High School and moved to New Mexico where she worked at White Sands Missile Range and eventually met her husband. She married Donald Thomas Larson on April 1, 1961. Upon her passing, Martha joins her husband, her parents, siblings and her eldest grandchild, Samantha, in heaven. Martha is survived by her children Donald T. (Barbara) Larson, Mitchell D. (Dyanna) Larson, and Julie N. (Shane) Spencer along with her grandchildren Lindsey, Kristen, Jessica, Thomas, Jordan and seven great grandchildren.
A true southern belle, Martha never met a stranger anywhere she went in the world. She enjoyed traveling as her husband's career took their family all over the globe before they finally re-settled in the Houston area in the early 1990s. In the early 2000s, Martha also made a home-away-from-home in Gordo, AL, keeping close ties to her many relatives and friends in Pickens County. Organized and social, Martha made her family a priority in everything she did. She was a loving Nana to many and didn't distinguish between blood family and found family. Martha enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, gospel music, and answering her kids questions they still called to ask her up until her final few weeks. She was a deeply devoted Christian and loved her brothers and sisters, always keeping up with them and would spend vacations with one sibling or another on both sides of the family.
We were blessed to have her as a mom who showed us how to live, laugh, and love. Rest in peace, dear mom, until we see you again!
