Martha was born on May 6, 1956 in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Eliseo and Lucia Reyna. She had three siblings Eliseo Alejandro “Alex” Reyna of Pearland, Edna Elva Reyna of Alvin and David Roberto Reyna Houston and niece Jessica Lynne Reyna of Clear Lake. She had family members in Mexico including countless aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends and co-workers here in the states. We all loved her and her flair for life. She never married and therefore had the opportunity to enjoy a very close relationship with her mother.
Martha began her educational career in Mexico. She was 7 years old when the family moved from Monterrey to Los Angeles, California. She was a determined young lady and held out entire days to go to the restroom because she didn’t know how to say, “Where is the restroom” in English. That determination led her to meet her first life goal. After she graduated in 1974 from Galveston Ball High she determined to work for NASA. Even though she received discouragement at every corner she forged on. She wore out a brand new pair of shoes walking 2 miles to find her job. She succeeded and found a job working for McDonnell Douglas, a NASA contractor. She educated herself to keep up with changing times and received many awards for her work and dedication there. She worked for several more companies including Rotan Mosle, Enron and finally GEXA.
Martha grew up in a home that extended hope and love to many through God’s grace. Her father and grandfather were both ministers and her life was filled with experiences that offered hospitality and ministry. Martha was not a spectator. She was a participator. She loved God and lived a life that honored her parent’s beliefs, as they had also become hers. She and her mother and sister attended Grace Community Church in Houston. She loved to garden with her mother, shop for purses; spoil her dog Chumina, shop for shoes, do fix it jobs around the house, shop for jewelry and also shop for shoes.
Martha’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the League City United Methodist Church at 1411 West Main Street, League City, Texas at 10 am. There will be visitation for family members and friends on Friday, March 18, 2011 at Forest Park East, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas from 6-8 pm.
Martha’s favorite scripture was Romans 12:12 12 “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” (New International Version, ©2011)
Note from Lucia Reyna, Martha’s mother: “I would like to thank God for the time he lent Martha to me. I know she is in His presence.”
