Oscar Chapa, 80, of League City, Texas, passed away on February 26, 2026. Born on October 31, 1945, in Houston, Texas, Oscar was the son of Eva and Faustino Chapa. His life was marked by steady devotion to family, an energetic spirit, and an uplifting presence that stayed with people long after a conversation ended.
Oscar attended Milby High School, where he played football and participated in track and field—early signs of a lifelong, active drive. In 1965, he joined the United States Air Force, beginning a chapter defined by service and determination. While serving, his first son, Timothy Faustino Chapa, was born in 1966. His second son, Dave Lee Chapa, was born while Oscar was stationed in England. After leaving the Air Force in 1971, Oscar welcomed his third son, Gregory Paul Chapa, and began his first job in telecommunications, a field he entered thanks to his military background and one in which he built a lasting career. During those years, Oscar became a dad to his adopted daughter, Angie Martin, and then his youngest son, Christopher Chapa, was born in 1984. Oscar continued in the communications industry until retiring at 71 years old.
He carried his youthful athleticism into his 30s and 40s through golf, and he also enjoyed hunting and camping, simple joys that fit his spirited, outdoors-loving nature and his ability to find something worth celebrating in the everyday.
Oscar was preceded in death by his father, Faustino Chapa; his mother, Eva Chapa; his sister, Nelda Quintero; his son, Christopher Chapa; and his nephew, Joel Daniel Roza, Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Carol Bowie; his sons Timothy Faustino Chapa and wife Julie, Dave Lee Chapa and wife Rhonda, and Gregory Paul Chapa and wife Rachel; daughter Angie Martin-Fisher-Lindholm and husband Charlie and his grandchildren Joshua Lee Chapa, Christina Elizabeth Chapa-Medina and husband Jake, Taylor Fisher, and Emilee Fisher. He is also survived by his sister Rosa Elia Truex-Smith and husband Richard Earl Smith; his brother Jose Arturo Chapa and wife Maria M. Chapa; his brother-in-law Jesse Quintero; and his sister Norma Sharp; along with nieces Jennifer Silva, Catherine Kim Quintero-Little, Brandy Ransom-Barrientos, and Monica L. Ransom-Long; and nephews Mark Anthony Chapa, Faustino Greg Chapa, Patrick Chapa, and James Andrew Quintero, and their families.
Oscar’s story is one of commitment—to country, to work, to family, and to the people he loved. His legacy lives on in the family he built, the memories he created, and the steady example of a life lived with purpose and warmth.
