

Robert R. Fry, 94, of Friendswood, Texas passed away February 4, 2015 after battling a stroke. Robert Fry was born January 5, 1921 in Akron, Ohio to Lester and Ida Fry. He grew up in Akron loving sports and in particular swimming and gymnastics. He met his wife while working as a manager at the Goodyear plant in Akron. He graduated from Stetson University with a B.S. degree in Physical Education and a minor in mathematics. He joined the navy during World War II and became a pilot and trained many naval pilots. He also served in the Korean War. Later he retired from the navy as an officer with the rank of Lieutenant. He opened a private detective agency in Jacksonville, Florida. He became a math teacher in HISD after following his son and daughter to Houston, Texas. He retired from HISD and then spent many wonderful years watching his grandchildren grow.
His wife of 68 years, Helen Fry, predeceased him in 2013. He is survived by son Jerry Fry and wife Adiela of Katy, Texas; daughter Linda Fry McGinty of Lexington Park, Maryland; daughter Debbie Brown and husband J. of Friendswood, Texas; eight grandchildren David Fry, Jessica Fry, Joseph Brown, Michael Brown, Cathy Lockard, Billy McGinty, Matthew Brown, and Tina Brown; and five great-grandchildren.
Robert was an active member of Good Shepard Episcopal Church in Friendswood. He spent many years serving as a church usher. He volunteered for “Meals on Wheels” and in his eighties was delivering meals to the elderly. He loved photography and swimming and spent time in the assisted living facility taking photos of the other residents. He swam in the senior Olympics here in Houston when he was in his eighties. He was a devoted family man who took care of his wife, who had Alzheimer’s, when he was in his eighties. He was loved and will be missed by all.
